Dr. John doesn't dissappoint,

Had the opportunity to attend a benefit concert with Dr. John and Natalie Merchant. He shared some cuts off this new release and it is a little bit of New Orleans for everyone to share. I have also been blessed to have visited N'awlins three times and cherish the music. This release allows us to hang on to the hope that the city and music will survive.
He is a truly amazing musician.

There's sumthin mysterious everytime I put on a Dr. John or Prof Longhair CD. Maybe it's because I am a yankee full breed, or maybe I just appreciate the style of music that comes from the Big Easy. This is not one of the good doctor's best releases, nor should it be. This album serves as a signature release of New Orleans tribute. So enjoy I did. Everyone has their style! ALSO, VISIT NEW ORLEANS! You won't be disappointed!

Decent music on this CD - not great but OK - but the liner notes make me sorry that I bought it. The centerfold quotes lyrics by the "Reverend" Goat Carson: "...don't you dare forget me, don't you dare disappear like the barge, that rammed that levee here, DON'T YOU EVER JUSTIFY THE RACIST WAY THEY LET US DIE...". (Emphasis added.) If you're one of the silly conspiracy nuts that actually believes that evil white people purposely took steps (during Katrina and during earlier hurricanes) to increase flood damage in the black neighborhoods of New Orleans, then you won't be offended by "Goat" Carson's lyrics. If, however, you are bothered by stupidly divisive racist urban legends - legends that serve to prevent ALL Americans, black and white, from joining together to help rebuilt N.O. - then you'll reject the "centerfold" message of this CD (and won't buy it). Anyway, "Higher Ground" and "Our New Orleans" offer much better tunes, with all net proceeds going to help the folks affected by Katrina. Bless New Orleans, and all my friends there.
