5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful album if you loved the movie!
'To Sir With Love' is probably my favourite film from the Sixties and in my top ten of all time. Surprisingly the movie was directed and screen written by James Clavell, better known for novels like 'Shogun'. Sidney Poitier was cast as the black teacher who gets his first teaching job in a run down East End school. He faces an out of control class of 15 yr olds, all...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful album if you loved the movie!, February 13, 2000
This review is from: To Sir With Love (Audio CD)
'To Sir With Love' is probably my favourite film from the Sixties and in my top ten of all time. Surprisingly the movie was directed and screen written by James Clavell, better known for novels like 'Shogun'. Sidney Poitier was cast as the black teacher who gets his first teaching job in a run down East End school. He faces an out of control class of 15 yr olds, all from deprived backgrounds. The movie focuses on Poitier's relationship with the kids, and his eventual winning them over. Using actual London locations and featuring Sixties icons like Lulu and Suzy Kendall,'To Sir with Love' is just perfect for all those nostalgia freaks who long for a return to those heady times. The cd soundtrack has excellent sleeve notes with stills from the film. The music itself is superb. Don Blacks lyrics to the title track still bring a tear to my eye. There are several versions of the song too, including the original movie orchestrated and best example. The Mindbenders (featured as the 'school prom' band) also feature on the album. I have waited along time to get hold of this soundtrack. It was worth the wait!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite movies captured on CD, July 16, 2002
By
This review is from: To Sir With Love (Audio CD)
I fell in love with this movie when I first saw it 15 years ago. I would play the Minbenders songs over and over. I always dreamed of this coming out on CD in crisp clear sound. This is it. All Mindbenders songs in full as well as all versions of 'To Sir with Love'. It also contains all other situation music from the movie.

My favorite songs are 'It's getting Harder' and 'Off and running' by the Mindbenders. I also love the unique version of 'To Sir with Love' that is played at the Museum. I don't think you can get this version anywhere else (and you gotta love that reverb).

This CD captures that unique sound of 60's music that is not "over-produced". It's a classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, September 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: To Sir With Love (Audio CD)
Contrary to our Canadian friend reviewing this record, it's a stunner. Of course, this is an exact duplicate of the original album, so it contains incidental music and scoring, unlike many of today's soundtracks, which are simply a collection of songs licensed to further vertical integration of a product. The Mindbenders tracks are great - never liked the band much, but these are fine songs, Lulu's stuff is killer, the alternate takes on the title theme fascinating. The rest of the score is good as well - there 's a reason this was a long awaited release. If you simply want the title track, maybe a compilation or Lulu CD would be better, but for those who liked the film's music upon watching it, here ya go!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice period score and entertaining pop numbers, June 24, 2001
This review is from: To Sir With Love (Audio CD)
Excellent soundtrack to an excellent film. The several variations on the title theme are each interesting and the other pop numbers (including the Mindbenders, who are quite good) very entertaining. The rest of the disc comprises mainly musical cues and the film's percussive score is evocative of the film. Recommended. Collectors' note : half of the future Led Zeppelin play on this disk....

5.0 out of 5 stars Out-of-print but well worth searching out, July 23, 2006
By
This review is from: To Sir With Love (Audio CD)
I have this CD, which I spent years trying to get, and I love it. It has not only the great pop tracks by Lulu and by the Mindbenders that perfectly capture the spirit of the time, but also has the music cues that instantly recall dramatic moments in the film, and different versions of the title track that fans of the film will remember so well.

Beyond that, the producers of the CD version went to the trouble of augmenting the original liner notes with a booklet featuring memories of the production of the soundtrack by people involved, like Lulu and Don Black, who wrote the lyrics for the theme song.

From what I can tell, legal wrangling and rights issues several of the performers on the pop tracks have prevented additional pressings of this disc, so if you see a copy on the market, grab it! You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like the Movie--Love the CD, May 12, 2006
By
This review is from: To Sir With Love (Audio CD)
The soundtrack to "To Sir, With Love" took a long time in coming, but it was well worth the wait. Every track on the CD took me back to when I first saw the film at a drive-in back in the '60's. To me, the best track is the "Museum" version of the theme song, which includes a verse that is not on any LP or 45. Although this CD is not all that long, I have no complaints with it. If you liked the movie, you will love the CD. Only five stars? Why not make it ten?

2.0 out of 5 stars To Rip-Off With Love Is More Like It ! ..., April 23, 2000
By A Customer

First let me say that "To Sir With Love" is one of my favourite movies of all time .. So naturally when I saw that the soundtrack was once again available, I jumped .. Too fast I might add.I really love the title song by Lulu (There are 3 different versions here) but the rest of the CD is nothing but filler. The sound is great but the packaging could be better. You'd think that on top of the actual songs from the movie they could have included other songs from the era to make this a complete package ... You'd think ... But then they couldn't rip you off could they ? ... By the way this CD is barely a half hour in length ... Another defect ... I could go on ... do not buy this CD at all ! Do yourself a favour and buy the video or DVD and get a compilation that has the title song ... Pass on this !
