Product Description
America is one of the most unusual places on Earth: a massive social and technological experiment, which has been going on now for over two hundred years.
Just one product of the experiment has been a continuous flow of incredible-- and at times even awe-inspiring-- stories. Stories which have frequently enthralled the rest of humanity, worldwide: for nowhere else have so many ever had so much freedom to pursue their dreams to their ultimate ends, for either good or ill. So it can be fascinating to see just what they do with it.
Sirens is about one particular part of the American experiment, which has perhaps burned hottest of all in some ways: a small rural town long ago nicknamed “Little Chicago”, due to its lawlessness and wild extremes.
Young geek Jerry Staute had no idea how different his violence-ridden and impoverished home town was from most of the rest of the USA. He just knew that people were often killed there; that fist and knife fights seemed to be a near daily occurrence; and if you weren't very, very careful, you could easily end up indistinguishable from road kill (or maybe missing altogether).
Then Staute went to high school, and discovered the remarkable fact that things could always get worse.
But from a teenage boy's perspective, it wasn't all bad; for Staute's home town also boasted some of the most beautiful and beguiling teenage girls to be found anywhere.
In fact, Staute had soon found himself in the throes of his first major crush; one consequence of which had been him getting a job, and soon after that, his first car.
While attending a ball game at a rival high school, Staute and his best friend rescue a couple of female classmates from a gang threat. That puts Staute into the gang's sights, and not long after, Staute's lured into an ambush by a girl in the gang's employ.
A hair-raising escape from the gang's clutches only leads to further complications, as the apparent femme fatale ends up being more a victim of circumstances than Staute himself. Staute soon finds himself enamored of her, and things become still more problematic for the two. But this tumultuous romantic entanglement only serves as the prelude to a much more serious affair, involving just about the last female on Earth that Staute would ever have expected...
And so begins a 20th century odyssey of action, adventure, and romance, taking place within some of the most dire real world circumstances many could imagine.
Sirens is the first book in The Shadowfast Supercar Driver Logs series, which details the adventures of Jerry Staute and the Ford Mustang he would ultimately transform into a true supercar.
The Shadowfast Supercar Driver Logs were inspired by actual people and events from the author's personal life.
