Wondeful Singers, Great Songs, Terrific Arrangements,

This review is from: Sirens of Swing -Torch Songs of the 30's & 40's (Audio CD)
This collection is a delight. It's a two-disc set, but there are only 20 selections, so all 20 could easily have been put on a single disc. That said, the selections are wonderful, from Jane Russell's rendition of "Body and Soul" to the Andrews Sisters' "Near You," Peggy Lee's "Bali Hai," Frances Langford's "Blue Moon," Helen Forrest's "Out of Nowhere," and Lena Horne's "Little Girl Blue," the album is a chronicle of beautiful songs performed by female singers who know how to put emotion into their interpretations. Personal favorites: "The Moon of Manakoora" (Dorothy Lamour), "That's for Me" (Jo Stafford), "I Wish I Didn't Love You So" (Dinah Shore), and "Deep Purple" (Bea Wain). Collections are often disappointing, with a few winners and many clunkers. Not "Sirens of Song." Though some songs are not as well known as others, all are winners.

Beautiful unusual CD!! One song is better than the last! I highly recommend this CD for anyone who loves the romantic music from a bygone era.
