I have been an XM Radio user for years. Got the XpressRC receiver at Best Buy to replace another older receiver, and the backlight failed within 3 months. Judging from blogs and review sites, many users are having this problem. Audiovox has no solution. So I add my one-star review to the fray. Don't buy this piece of junk.

Audiovox XpressRCi,
This review is from: Audiovox XMCK30PXM Xpress-RC Receiver (Electronics)
I have been a XM subscriber since the service started and own a unit built into my Chevy truck and a SkiFi2 unit that is in my daily driver. I drive a lot, so the unit is on in my car for about 900 hours per year. I also have two home dock stations for listening in my home/pool/patio and the garage. I'm a satellite radio fan.
My wife bought me the XpressRCi unit as a gift, but there wasn't anything wrong with my current unit. What I like about this unit: - the split screen is very handy and I use it all the time to monitor my previous channel or other favorites - the replay feature is greatly improved from my SkiFi2 and you can scroll backwards or forwards thru saved content. - the song/artist saver feature is also handy - all other performance aspects (signal, sound, etc.) are equal to my old unit - the backlit Favorites buttons are easy to see at night. What I don't like: - the fonts on the top and bottom of the screen are very tiny. Almost illegible to my 48 yr old eyes. - all buttons are very tiny and much harder to access than my previous unit. The SkiFi2 buttons are spaced farther apart and had raised bumps, so I could chose the Favorites button I needed without looking at the unit. Neutral: - the color screen doesn't do anything for me. In fact, I think it makes the small fonts hard to read at times.(particularly on split screen)

Been wanting XM for years and I'm not disappointed. This radio looks and sounds great. Sometimes the signal cuts out but maybe because the antenna is still on the dash. I'll have it professionally installed this week.
Out of the box there are a couple problems. Many logos are missing from the channel displays. For instance, I have the logos for music channels 40s, 50s and 60s, but not 70s 80s and 90s. Also the remote will not turn the unit on. It will turn it off. Strange stuff I cannot find any answers for on the web. Perhaps XM support or Audiovox will help me. Update 1: Re:remote. Posted problem on site. Reply was to call Tech support. Called tech. Told me to replace remote battery. Did not fix. Asking what to do now. Update2: Found on page 60 of user guide: When radio is in car cradle, remote will not turn it on. I guess this is a 'feature.' Tech support didn't know this.

Received this receiver just after lunch today, had it activated and set it in my new XMAS100 XM Compact Sound System. All I can say is I'm walking proof this radio can be operated by senior citizens. Easy to navigate through the steps of operation and also programming your favorites. The color screen just adds to its performance. I have already shown it and recommended it to two friends - they flipped out over it. Very nice!

Great until the backlight went out.,
This review is from: Audiovox XMCK30PXM Xpress-RC Receiver (Electronics)
I bought this unit about a year and a half ago. I thought it was great until the backlight went out last week. Apparently this is a common problem. It still works but I can't see anything on the screen. It's very frustrating. I called Audiovox and they don't have a solution expect for me to send it in and pay $85 for repairing it. For the price, you would think that it would last longer then 16 months. So, I can't recommend buying this unit.

I have had this unit for 15 months, and it was great until the backlight failed. Of course it was just a few months after the warranty expired. It appears, from the other reviews, that this is a common problem. Too bad, because I liked the color screen and split-screen features. I didn't use the built-in recorder too often, but I liked the ability to have alerts for artists in addition to individual songs. It would be 5/5 with better reliability on the backlight.

Great Radio..But watch out 4 metal contact with audio wire,

This radio is great and has all kinds of features to enjoy you favorite music or listening program. What I enjoy the most is to have the sports scores scroll below on all the games going on at the same time. It records and alerts you of your favorite artist or song. I have purchased this radio new ...However,there is something about the polarity with the audio wire. When you disconnect the audio wire, if you make contact with the prong with any metal it will short and you have no audio. Had two exchange 3 radios before I realize what caused the problem. thank goodness for the warranty. Great radio otherwise...

Great Reciever,
This review is from: Audiovox XMCK30PXM Xpress-RC Receiver (Electronics)
This is a great xm receiver. I upgraded from a Tao xm2go and this is a solid step up as I no longer needed or desired a portable model. The lack of a built in FM transmitter is a bit of a bummer but it finally gave me the excuse to wire it to the auxiliary port of my CD deck, which gives much better sound anyway. The best improvement over the Tao is obvious, the screen. It is big, bright, and beautiful. I can easily see it even in direct sunlight. Also, the Tao's screen became hard to read while wearing polarized sunglasses (if you have polarized sunglasses you may know what I mean) but the xpress rc is still easily legible. The split screen options are also fantastically useful. Overall I am not disappointed in this product at all. It is a great radio.

I purchased this receiver as a gift for my son (age 45) which he had Best Buy install. He already subscibes to XM radio and wanted to enjoy it in his car. This model is more expensive than the Audiovox model he originally asked for. I cannot give a very technical review only to say my son absolutely LOVES this receiver and was very excited about the features.

good radio; not so easy install,

This radio has great features; the color screen, remote, etc. The install/setup not great. The internal modulator, if your car radio doesn't not have an aux input, is worthless. You need the sure connect kit to attach directly to your car radio antenna in order to get an acceptable signal/reception. I would not consider using the internal modulator if you have a factory installed radio antenna embedded in your cars windshield. I have a Toyota Sienna minivan and the factory radio is inaccessible without taking multiple panels off of the dash, etc. Do you homework; check out you cars' antenna connection before buying make sure you know how to connect the radio before you buy, or, better yet, get professional installation. The Xm programming is great; don't understand why you cant get both Sirius and XM programming on these radios; now the same company.
