5.0 out of 5 stars That's Some Powerful Gospel!
I prefer Sister Act 2 Soundtrack over Sister Act because of it content of songs. It has the best selection of songs. Don't get me wrong, Sister Act is good but I think this is better. Consisting you have Lauryn Hill of The Fugees and Grammy Award winner for her album 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.' My question is, why hasn't other talents like Ryan Toby and Tanya...

3.0 out of 5 stars WHY CAN'T I JUST GET A SINGLE? I HAVE TO BUY THE WHOLE CD?!
The CD is pretty good. I mean, if you've seen Sister Act II and you like the music, then you'll love the CD.

MY ONLY BEEF IS... I searched literally for HOURS trying to just buy a single from this CD, "Oh Happy Day." It is NOT on iTunes or anywhere else on the internet. If someone can find it, please let me know. There is some false advertising out...

I prefer Sister Act 2 Soundtrack over Sister Act because of it content of songs. It has the best selection of songs. Don't get me wrong, Sister Act is good but I think this is better. Consisting you have Lauryn Hill of The Fugees and Grammy Award winner for her album 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.' My question is, why hasn't other talents like Ryan Toby and Tanya Blount been successful? Blount did a great album called 'Natural Thing' but nothing since then. I'm glad they have this album as a momento of some of the best singing talent around.

Just about every song here are some of the best classics put together. Whoopi does an OK job on Motown's classics, 'Dancing in the Street,' 'Ball of Confusion' (with the St. Francis Sisters) and closing song 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough.' The best comes from Lauryn Hill and Tanya Blount singing the old gospel hymn 'His Eye Is On the Sparrow.' There's excitement in 'Oh Happy Day' sung by Ryan Toby and the St. Francis Choir. Their shining moment at the competition with the new version of 'Joyful, Joyful.' They bring down the house with their kicked up performance. So if you haven't seen the film yet, don't miss out on some fun, some powerful voices and beautiful gospel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Fun, Fun, January 10, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This is simply a fun album to play. We hear it a lot because my wife loves it and she loves to sing. She has a good voice and often uses this album as a warm-up before singing.

The opening medley is lively and constantly changing (medleys tend to do that, but not as fun as this one). "Oh Happy Day" is fun to sing-along to, especially if you have seen the movie. They dynamics and voice control on "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" are awesome. The "Ode to Joy" is like "Boston Public" meets Saint Olaf's Choir. Followed by "Joyful, Joyful" will get you off your feet, clapping your hands and stomping your feet. Even Whoopi Goldberg does a decent job in "Ain't No Mountain High Enough".

If you love to sing, you must get this album (and should watch the movie, too). If you like upbeat songs or gospel songs, certainly give this album a try.

Honestly, this is the best gospel music on one CD i've ever heard. Christians and non-christians call listen to it...which is awsome...for some of my non-christian friends. It is also an awsome movie...and i encourage anyone who hasn't seen it...to see it! thanks so much for your time!

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST SOUNDTRACKS EVER, January 28, 2006
Please everybody ignores Amazon's review of this album. I am 16 years old, and I was three years old when this movie and soundtrack came out. And at an early age this entire project(movie and soundtrack) gave me a love of music, which is why I like to sing now and introduced me to quality music and great classics, and not like the mess that we hear today. So for anybody who has contemplated bying this project, listen if everytime you watch the movie, you cant help to sing along with them, them you need to purchase this album. Because it will certainly bless you.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of The Great Soundtracks..., January 16, 2004
Back in the day Sister Act 2 was one of my favorites because it represented the struggle to rise up and overcome adversity and doubt and excel...something we needed coming out the ghetto. Hope. The soundtrack was definitely a fun 'sing - along' type of thing since I already knew all the songs from watching the movie so much anyway. Notable singers that were on the album include Ryan Toby of City High fame, Tanya Blount, and the great Lauryn Hill. Granted that outside the movie I would rarely listen to these songs but that's exactly why this is a soundtrack. When I feel like reminiscing about a movie or something I just pop in the soundtrack. Still a great soundtrack with very memorable songs. 5 Stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely uplifting music, January 29, 2001
I don't really care if Whoopi can sing or not. "His Eye On The Sparrow", "Oh Happy Day", and "Joyful, Joyful" are worth the cost of the CD. I've had this CD for a long time but something went wrong with mine so I've just bought 3 more...so I'll always have a copy around to make me happy when I need it.

ive never been a religious person, but the spirit and energy and incredible soul contained within this music is breathtaking. i bought this cd for lauryn hill and ryan toby. "his eye is on the sparrow","joyful joyful", and "happy day" are the tracks to buy this for. i dont particularly care for the rest, but this is the only cd i can get those on. celebrating jesus is fine with me. for the first time, i realized what a beautiful thing that could be. "his eye is on the sparrow" always puts the hair up on the back of my neck. it's worth it for that feeling. i strongly recommend The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

4.0 out of 5 stars Soulful, March 10, 2003
Do not listen to Amazon.com's review of this CD. You will be deprived of a great collection of soulful songs from the cast, especially their version of Oh Happy Day. And this contains one of the first available recordings of Lauryn Hill, who was also in the movie as an angsty teenager. Buy the CD and the DVD and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is simply amazing!!!, January 14, 2002
This Soundtrack is probably the best soundtrack that was ever published! In my opinion. The peak of this whole CD is surely the "Joyful Joyful" amazing performance, an arrangement made by one of "Take 6"'s singers. "His eye is on the sparrow" also demonstrates some great vocal work, especially on behalf of the a-m-a-z-i-n-g Lauryn Hill. In my opinion, this CD reflects one the peaks of her music, and gospel music as a whole, and music at all to me. This film was the one that entered me into the music business, and i thank them and this soundtrack for that! IT IS A MUST!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Saint Francis Choir Gives Strong Vocal Performances, September 13, 1998
By A Customer
For any person with an interest in quality gospel music, this soundtrack comes highly reccomended. Filled with powerful vocal performances by the beautifully voiced hip-hop sensation Lauryn Hill, who plays Rita Watson in the film, and Ryan Toby, a talented young man with incredible potential, Sister Act 2: soundtrack is an uplifting and entertaining experience. While popular actress/singer Jennifer Love Hewitt stars in the film, don't look for any solos on this soundtrack. Aretha Franklin provides an enyoyable (as always) performance on "A Deeper Love". Numerous popular songs are involved in this soundtrack, however, many are sung by Whoopi Goldberg, a talented actress, yet not so talented singer, causing the only dissapointment. Overall, however, the quality performances from youthful, talent filled gospel choirs rings throughout and makes this a soundtrack worth purchasing. --Jeff Blakeman
