The Goodness,
By
This review is from: Sister & Brother (Audio CD)
This CD is like a testimonial. There is a saying that everybody's got a story, well Melky Sedeck are wonderful narrators and tell their story with such lyrical styling. Songs like "Lady" the words in the song should be a national anthem for young ladies...."I man will be a man, that I know....Just because he slept in your bed last night doesnt mean he's yours for life". A Woman is sexy and classy, works seven days a week so the kids can eat. "Paradise" makes you feel just that...on an island sippin' tropical punch aspiring for that paradise right here at home with your significant other. Rather than give a description of every track on the hot album.....Check it out for yourself. By the way, its nothing like the style of older brother Wyclef.....Melky Sedeck surpass the mediocre style of there brother with a depth in lyrics and a smoothness in musical style that is demonstrative of what should be in soul music and not what sells.

Great Music Runs in the Family,

Wyclef's "Brother Sister" have done it. This is a must for any Soul music fan. The album, like the title of one of their songs ,is "Raw". Melky has a beautiful voice to listen to. Sedecks instrumentation is wonderful as well. The songs are original and nothing else compares to it.

Rocks the house--ignore all negative reviews!,

This CD rocks. "To Sir With Love" is enough, but figure that in with "#1 Guy" and you have the nice, smoothness of sixties/seventies girl-group soul all wrapped up. These guys rock. I too heard their stuff on soundtracks but was NOT disappointed at all. "Diva" is great and so is "Raw"--they have a harder edge. They're kinda like MeShell N'... in a few spots and sweet sweet sweet throughout. Buy it now! Express mail, G!

This Album is music for the next millenium ground breaking,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sister & Brother (Audio CD)
When I first purchase this album I thought it would be filled with samples and a lot of other nuances that plague music today. Thank God Its not!I was fortunate to see these kids live on the lilith fair tour and I am a fan for life. Melky's voice is dynamic on record and electric live. If you are tired of listening to the same boring music that is being pushed on us This is an album for you. And If you get the chance run hop do whatever but see them perform live It will captivate you. An Ike&Tina for the year 2000! In a word refreshing. Soul music without any bonderies. Music for the "intelligent listener" Get it before the band wagon starts!!!!!!!

The best release of summer '99!,

This review is from: Sister & Brother (Audio CD)
This cd is truly the most original music around right now. It combines r&b, soul, opera, classical & pop without preaching either influence to the listener. It truly is made for people who appreciate soul music beyond the usual that is recorded by way too many untalented artists. BUY IT!

A terrific debut!,

A funky combination of traditional soul, hip-hop, and acid jazz, all spiked with an international flair, this CD should enjoy wide appeal. "Sister & Brother" features superb singing, excellent, mostly mid-tempo grooves, and sophisticated production and effects that enhance but never overwhelm the music. If you like the Fugees, Wyclef et al (Farel Sedeck and the lovely Melky Jean are his siblings), or Les Nubians, you will assuredly dig this record.

Nice Departure,
This review is from: Sister & Brother (Audio CD)
This CD is a great departure from the mainstream music. I stumbled on the CD by accident. Melky Sedeck has a song on the Disappearing Acts soundtrack that I loved, so I checked this CD out. I am glad I made this purchase. My favorite track is the last one, Paradise.

Intelligent, Funky, Classically Wonderful Music - (Really!),

This review is from: Sister & Brother (Audio CD)
This truly is a set of beautifully different music. It is so good to get a breath of freash music in an age of cookie cutter songs. Though they pay homage to great songs, styles, and musicians; yet, they keep it fresh and real. I just loved what they did with Sweet Honey In The Rock's 'My Lament' when they turned it into 'Mi Amor'. The song 'Raw' is just that - Raw! On this CD, you will not be cheated because the WHOLE CD is great! It is one of those that you listen to and love every song. To Melky Sedeck thanks for doing a great job.

What happens when you mix Hip-Hop and Neo-Soul!,
By Matt Vasquez (Brooklyn, New York) - See all my reviews

Wow! This two really surprised me. The first time I saw them was on Motown Live when they performed "High Heel Shoes" and "Attraction" and spoke about they got this project "Sister And Brother" together. Besides the fact that they are Sister and Brother, their aim to get all their Sista's and Brotha's to listen to this. The album has some real Funk, R&B, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Rap, Neo-Soul, Gospel and a great feel to it. Great standout Hip-Hop/Neo-Soul songs are: Shake It, Foolish Heart, Lady, Raw, High Heel Shoes and Attraction. They even do some Classical Movement in: Mi Amor, a beautiful ballad. Well, what more do I need to say. It's a mixture of Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, Angie Stone and more mixed together. Definately something to cop!

The King&Queen of Neo-Soul,
By MaddKhameleon (Singapore: The City of Sin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sister & Brother (Audio CD)
Melky&Sedeck are some big star's sister and brothers, but I have to tell you this, they are 10 times better than their Big Brother. If they wanted fame, they would have called themselves `...Jean' to attract attention from critics. Wyclef only plays guitar on one of the tracks here.(How come everyone, including myself is talking about that guy who is not worthy of his fame?) They are much more talented I suppose,I can definitely tell you, this is one of the most important neo-soul album ever emerged in the late 90's, together with Maxwell's `Embriya' and D'Angelo's `Voodoo'all of them are going to be cornerstones for the neo-soul scene in this decade. The album is actually that good, it is soulful while hip, being modern with a touch of classical music, just check out `Mi Amor' and `Raw', especially the piano solo and Melky's falsetto near the end of `Raw', wow, Melky really can sing man! You will even wonder why aren't they famous. Well, sometimes you have to compromise I guess, and while this album has its commercial accessibility, it does not really follow your usual R&B stereotypical palette. They do deserve much more attention than what they are getting at the moment and this album has to be RAVED by yours truly.
