5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed how Chiquita and Inda "bonded" after they were both cheated on by the same man. The other characters in the book were entertaining and well developed as well. Eric has a writing style that is not only believable but he'll have you laughing as well. This was the first book by Eric Jerome Dickey that I read and after I finished it, I ran to...

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm torn
On the one hand, this book is an undisputed page turner, and I couldn't wait to finish it. On the other hand, I didn't like the characters. I can't honestly say that I liked this book, but Dickey does a good job of developing his characters. My problem with this book is that these women are a little too over the top. I really enjoyed how Chiquita and Inda "bonded" after they were both cheated on by the same man. The other characters in the book were entertaining and well developed as well. Eric has a writing style that is not only believable but he'll have you laughing as well. This was the first book by Eric Jerome Dickey that I read and after I finished it, I ran to the store to buy "Friends and Lovers". I have since read everything Eric's written and I'm anxiously awaiting "Liar's Game". This was the starting point for me becoming a huge Eric Jerome Dickey fan. Buy this book. You won't be disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm torn, May 21, 2000

On the one hand, this book is an undisputed page turner, and I couldn't wait to finish it. On the other hand, I didn't like the characters. I can't honestly say that I liked this book, but Dickey does a good job of developing his characters. My problem with this book is that these women are a little too over the top. Even meek and mild Valerie somehow morphs into a character you might expect to see on The Jerry Springer Show.

The 3 perspective scheme of this book (Valerie, Chiquita, Inda) didn't work for me at all. I also had a hard time accepting the relationship between Inda and Chiquita.

I think the book overall could have used more depth. By trying to detail the lives of all three women, I don't think the writer did justice to any of them. This is a promising first effort though, and I'd be willing to read another of Dickey's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sister Act that's too HOT!! electrifying an on-the-edge read, March 28, 2001
This review is from: Sister, Sister (Paperback)
Sister,Sister was too "GOOD." It was the last of Eric's books that I read. I enjoyed seeing how it all started for him and I wasn't disappointed in the least. I read the book in 2-3 days and hated that I finished it when I did. I've been a fan of Eric's for awhile and never seem to be disappointed with his books. I find it refreshing that he can write from a male/female point of view and he does it so very well. Sister,Sister opens the door to the saga that carries over into almost all of his books. You see just what somepeople will do to be in a relationship or so-called one anyway. Eric shows us, how some are blinded by the "thought" of love and how it can make you think and do some crazy things, in the name of love. The story was funny, witty and edgy. Just like I like them. Each page left me hunger for more. Much more. This one is a bestseller in my book. I thought it was clever that Cheaters filled in the blanks and cleared up somethings for me. Eric is an awesome writer and I turn people on to him every chance I get. If you haven't experienced him yet what are you waiting for? Forever a EJD fan and awaiting the next bestseller ALWAYS.

4.0 out of 5 stars Page Turner, January 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sister, Sister (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book the depth and soap opera quality of the characters' lives kept my eyes glued to this book. Sister, Sister was the first book that I've read by Mr. Dickey. The quality of this book has led to me reading two more of his books. I think his imagination and writing style is very entertaining and would recommend any of his novels. Keep up the good work Mr. Dickey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warning. . . This Book Is Addictive, August 15, 1997
This review is from: Sister, Sister (Hardcover)
* * * * * 5 Star rating "ERIC JEROME DICKEY is an incredible writer." His book, Sister, Sister held me captive for 6 hours one Sunday and I must say when he set me free with his words, I actually missed it. The book deals with a number of topical issues but it is not didactic nor is it preachey. In fact, he spins a very funny and unpredictable story set in sunny California. As an aspiring author I must warn you, if you like books that are not written with emotion or books that are not topical or books that do not make you think or books that are predictable, DO NOT READ THIS ONE, because it is addictive. But if you enjoy a book that will take you to another world, one in which you are sure to miss after reading the last page, you will undoubtedly enjoy. . . Sister, Sister.

5.0 out of 5 stars it kept me up ALL night!, September 5, 2000
This review is from: Sister, Sister (Paperback)
ohmigoodness, how do i write a short simple review on such a complicated, mind altering story?! i was cracking up, and ready to cry at various (and sometimes at once) while i read this book...i tell you, i read this book in less then half a day, which is very unlike me, i usually like to read stuff slowly and let it marinate. but not this one, because the plot line on this book was cracking from the very first page! i started reading at 11pm and didn't stop until 3:30pm...knowing i had to get up early in the morning...the story of a loveless marriage, and heartless (or so it seems) sister, along with a new friend she meets after catching their boyfriend with another woman (three timing ya'll, isn't that scandelous?) will do that to you. whether you're young old, or inbetween, you'll definitely find something to equate to yourself in this novel...eric dickey, i must say that i aspire to have the amount of success you do, but i also plan to have the love of the craft of writing down first...because without the love, you can't have success...keep those books coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars YOUR THE MAN EJD!!!, August 25, 2000
By
This book is a great "sister to sister" reading. The reason why I say this is because some authors, not naming any names, try thier best to put out the ways of life of black women of today. I like to say that Eric Jerome Dickey did a wonderful job writing out the lives (of some; not all) black women in the event in wich they have encounter around this present time. I love most of the characters in the book (Valerie, Inda and Chiquita).Valerie is a sweet loving women who didn't deserve the treatment that she had received from her husband, but had her fair share towards the end. Inda is the strong wit women which you can't help but to admire and also make you laugh and then there's Chiquita which you probrably think has no back side to her recovers it later towards the end. The part dealing with Chiquita mother to me was very emotional. Like I said it's a great book and EJD did a great job with it, readers it's a "Must Read" for real.

5.0 out of 5 stars FUUNNNNNYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, May 19, 1999

Excellent read. Please bring Inda's character back she is so real and so funny!!!! Her character had me hysterically laughing on the subway and anywhere else I read it. The book as a whole is so (like the other books) so realistic & funny and a great read. It was hard to put down! I'm going out today to buy Milk in My Coffee and can't wait 'til Cheaters is on sale. Eric is awesome! It amazes me the way he captures a woman's inner thoughts, feelings and emotions so well! (Keep 'em coming Eric you are definitely blessed with an incredible gift).

5.0 out of 5 stars A can't put down, must read, May 13, 1998
This review is from: Sister, Sister (Paperback)
Eric J. Dickey stepped on the scene, and has made quite a name for himself. His first entry into the world of literature is funny, concise, and thoroughly entertaining. Dickey writes about issues everyone can relate to - lost loves, jilted lovers, and sadistic acts of revenge (or at least the thoughts of).

This book is easy to read with everyday dialogue. The story enthralls you with the first chapter and you are compelled to read until you get to the last page. Trust me, I stayed up until 2 in the morning just to finish this one.

If you don't have it, add it to your collection.
