What is it that causes some people to take drastic measures to maintain a facade of affluence when they are actually so broke they can't afford to pay attention? This is the case with Darien Jackson, public relations expert. At one point in her life, she could afford the finer things, but when she loses her job due to corporate downsizing, her financial outlook is decidedly bleak.

This doesn't deter Darien, though. She maxes out her credit cards, skips a few bills, and plays a game of cat and mouse with her bill collectors, all just to keep up appearances. Things go from bad to worse when the repo man comes looking for her car. With the help of a couple of crafty individuals, she manages to avoid immediate repossession. But when the repo man finally catches up to her, Darien puts on a show worthy of an Oscar. Her act is so convincing that Maxwell Ferguson, the repo man, decides to let her work off her past due car notes as a PR consultant for a family owned business. Little does Darien know, Maxwell is not the repo man, but instead the CEO of Allied States, LLC., his family owned business.

Although his family thinks Maxwell has taken leave of his senses by falling for Darien's story, Maxwell stands firm in his decision to hire Darien. The fact that she is beautiful only cements his decision, although he fights the attraction at first. What will happen when Darien finds out who Maxwell really is? Will Darien's lie backfire? Will their relationship weather the storm?

Every time I pick up a novel by Leslie Esdaile, I know that I will not be disappointed. She is one of the few authors who, in the space of one novel, can make me laugh, cry and reaffirm my faith in the power of true love. Esdaile has truly mastered her ability to create a beautiful, touching love story with characters you can identify with. She also writes in everyday language, something I can relate to, and not the oftentimes stilted, flowery phrases that are so prevalent in so many other romance novels. I can't wait to see what's next for this very talented author.

"SISTER GOT GAME" IS BY FAR ONE OF BEST ROMANCE NOVELS I'VE READ IN THE LAST TWO YEARS, AND THAT'S SAYING A LOT FOR AN AVID READER LIKE MYSELF (READING AN AVERAGE OF THREE BOOKS A WEEK). I HAVE READ A FEW OF MS. ESDAILE'S BOOKS BEFORE AND WAS PLEASED WITH HER WORK, BUT THIS STORY'S CHARACTERS HAD ME CHEERING FOR THEM ALL THE WAY...THIS ONE IS A SLAM DUNK!

Mrs. Esdaile put her foot in this book. I like her other books but this one is going down as the best book I've read from her. The chemistry between the main characters were great as was the chemistry between the family. This book brought out a lot of emotions; I laughed, cried, shouted "thats right" to a couple of scenes. I had to take my hat off to her about this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think I'm in love ..., May 15, 2006
This review is from: Sister Got Game (Paperback)
I knew from the moment I read the last line of Leslie Esdaile's short story in SISTAHOOD OF SHOPAHOLICS that she was an author I would be on the look-out for.

SISTER GOT GAME has made its way to my top 10 list of favorite books ever. Hands down, it's one of the realest books I've ever read. In this cache, Esdaile highlights the important factors of what each one of us treasures in ANY relationship - Love, honesty, trust, spirituality and a sense of family. I would best describe it as "chick-lit with heart".

Darien Jackson is the dazzling college educated woman struggling to get by. Though she is smart and talented, Darien uses men to get her closer to her idea of the finer things in life - that is until all of her game playing catches up to her.

When Maxwell Ferguson, the young and remarkably handsome repo man, attempts to take away Darien's stylish sports car, she is at her wits end. She comes up with an outlandish tale of being stalked and how her car is her only means of escape. Captivated by her beauty and his chance to play knight in shining armor, Max offers her a job to pay off her debts. She readily accepts seeing this as her chance to right her wrongs. But, when she reports to work on Monday, she finds out that the sexy tow-man is the successful self-made millionaire CEO of her new company.

From that point on, the two get caught in a whirlwind cluster of serious attraction. They are made for each other and everyone around them sees it. They try and deny the feelings, but it just brings them closer, each of them falling harder for one another. In the end, they give into true love and of course live happily ever after.

Leslie Esdaile is an amazing storyteller. SISTER GOT GAME had me yelling with excitement, crying with emotion and melting with adoration (Maxwell Ferguson's character had me weak in the knees - I think I fell in love!).

The story was beautiful and the characters were so familiar and relative. I will definitely be picking up all of Esdaile's books, and be in search for any new projects!

5 stars all the way!

Darien never thought that she would met her prince charming while she was trying to keep her car from the repo man or that the repo man would be her prince charming.

On the surface Darien has it all looks, an education and a glitter filled life. In realilty she has been out of work for a year and can't pay her bills. Oh yeah on top of that she hasn't had a date in a year.

Enter Maxwell Ferguson a self made millionaire who really keeps his finger in all his money making pies. He is the repo man and tried to take Dariens car. She does what she does best to save her ride. She runs her game on him and it works. Not only does she get to keep her car but gets a new job nad a chance to do things right.

The job is in Georgia her home state and where her three older and jealous sisters live. It is also where Max runs his family business and his family lives.

For Darien this is a new beginning and she plans to take full advantage of it the right way.
Max is attracted to Darine but really only had honorable intentions towards her. They have fantastic chemistry together and some steamy love scenes.

I really liked this book and the only thing I didn't like was Max's sister. I may not be from the South but pleezze! Max he was the oldest and if it wasn't for him none of siblings would be sucessful and rich. Doreetha couldn't have been more that 33 or 34 but the way she tried to run Max and everyone else you would think she was the grandmother, aunt or eldest sister by 10 or more years. The scene in the kitchen when Darien made a pie and wanted to help with Sunday dinner was annoying. Also the way the reat of the family always had to add thier two cents was
more story time taken away from Darien and Max.

However, other than annoying family members it was a fun and sexy read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, January 24, 2005
This review is from: Sister Got Game (Paperback)
I was so pleasantly surprised by this book that I had to write my first-ever review on Amazon (although I consult the reviews all the time). This book had characters that jumped off the page, and the author's style of writing is so down-to-earth that I felt like I could hang out with Darien, Arnetta and the whole Ferguson clan. This book gave me the "warm & fuzzies" and I actually read it a second time because I didn't want the story to end. Great job and I can't wait to pick up other titles by this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ms. Esdaile, You Go Girl!!!, December 25, 2004
This review is from: Sister Got Game (Paperback)
I loved this book! Having taken a short break from reading romance novels, Sister Got Game was a great reintroduction. I actually found myself laughing out loud or getting teary-eyed throughout this story. The episode in the church of "going to the rail" was hilarious because I could totally identify with Darien's mixed emotions(LOL). The Ferguson family is such a lively bunch it is a shame that their story had to end, but maybe we can get a novella or something out of Arnetta's and Ted's budding romance. So Ms. Esdaile how about little somethin' extra for the fans of the Ferguson clan?

Leslie writes romance with such wit and creativity that I couldn't help but enjoy this book. She gives the major and (so-called) minor characters so much life, that you feel as though you know them. I actually cried happy tears with this one. Leslie is one wonderful author!

5.0 out of 5 stars The game is over!, July 15, 2011
This review is from: Sister Got Game (Paperback)

Darien Jackson, a beautiful well put together young woman. To look at her, it seems she could be a high powered wall street mogul with the big corner office; looking out over the city. Or maybe a runway model with her expensive attire and car. But in reality, she's the baby of the family spoiled by her parents and resented by her older sisters, who compared to her Rodeo Drive is a pipe dream.
Darien lives beyond her means trying to find employment, while using what she has to get there. But with her credit cards maxed out, behind in her rent, and the repo man hot on her heels, she needs a sponsor Quick!
Where will she turn? Darien uses men and discards them like used kleenex, so theres no steady love in her life. With no family to support her financially and no man de-jour, what will she do?

Maxwell Ferguson, a self employed man of means, and who just happens to be the one who comes to repo Darien's car. But it seems that she's had help in eluding him. But when he catches her the performance begins. Maxwell decides to offer her a way out.
Will this prove to be a big mistake for Maxwell, or will Darien finally try to get her affairs in order. Or will they both get more than they expected?

I enjoyed this book so much that I went and ordered another title. For a fun, sexy and quick read, Sister Got Game can't be beat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sure to be a classic!, September 15, 2004
This review is from: Sister Got Game (Paperback)
This romance novel is funny and so-oo hot. Darien is not your average romance leading lady. She has more than her share of spunk, and needless to say game. I had to put the book down to laugh, to shake my head, and to fan my self when it got too hot. This is cutting edge romance. Leslie Esdaile is a gifted writer and Sister Got Game is sure to be a classic. If you love to read a good novel of any genre then you need to read this one today!
