5.0 out of 5 stars Sister Hazel's "A Life In The Day" DVD snapshot, December 29, 2003
By
This review is from: Sister Hazel - A Life in the Day (DVD)
A Life In The Day is an unmatched view of everything Sister Hazel. The DVD includes a feature-length documentary that brings you into every nook and cranny of their lives as they travel the country making music and mischief. Featuring behind-the-scenes footage of sold out shows from Tampa to Chicago, as well as a ticket to the band's floating music party, The Rock Boat. All of the good vibes and good humor that make them one of America's top live bands are in evidence here as they take you into their dressing room, tour bus, hotel room and share their thoughts on music and life. After the documentary, sit back and enjoy a Sister Hazel concert like no other. Shot at Orlando's House Of Blues, the concert feature brings all of the warmth and energy of a real Hazel gig to your living room.

4.0 out of 5 stars This a great DVD... with a couple of flaws, February 27, 2004
By
jaydubbya (Gainesville, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sister Hazel - A Life in the Day (DVD)
My girlfriend is a huge Sister Hazel fan, so I bought her this DVD for Valentine's Day. It is a great concert with great sound. We saw them live in Gainesville, FL the night after the concert shown in the video, and it is basically the same set. (Though, having them home in Gainesville meant they were able to point out old friends and family in the arena, which is a nice touch.)

The only flaws to be found is if you have a widescreen, high definitiion TV, you will notice the video quality isn't quite as good as you might want (though it is still great.) If the concert had been shot on film instead of video, it might be better. Worse (IMHO), though, is the concert is literally letterboxed as opposed to anamorphic widescreen. If you know the difference, you know the problem.

Overall, those are minor quibbles, and I highly recommend this DVD to Hazelnuts and even those with a mild interest. These guys are very talented all around and you won't be disappointed with it.

If I could have given this DVD 4.8 stars, I would. But I just can't justify a fiver.

5.0 out of 5 stars "A Life In The Day" ... A Must Have!, February 3, 2004
By
This review is from: Sister Hazel - A Life in the Day (DVD)
As a longtime Sister Hazel fan, or "Hazel-nut" if you will, I had purchased this DVD expecting a great show. A great show was what I got, and more! This is not only a perfect, high quality visually and sounding concert featuring 17+ 2 bonus songs, this is also one of the best band documentaries I have ever seen. The band takes their fans on a journey through their early days detailing their bands history, as well as commentary from the crew. I especially liked the not-so-flattering footage that included SH's guitarist Ryan Newell lost on the "Rock Boat" and more. This DVD is a very humorous day in the life of SH that proves the band's loyalty to it's fans including footage of the band sending pizza out to concert goers waiting in line, autograph sessions, having a tail-gate cook-out for fans and much more proving that Sister Hazel is not only a band consisting of very good friends that happen to be very talented musicians, but this DVD also shows that these guys know how important the fans are and are one of the few bands out there that make themselves accessable to their fans. This DVD is a must-have for all. Even if your are not a Hazel-nut yet, you will be after buying this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, February 2, 2004
This review is from: Sister Hazel - A Life in the Day (DVD)
This is only one of the words that can describe this masterpiece. There are so many highlights to this DVD that it's impossible to name them all. It is essentially split into two parts with a full documentary of the band which is basically Sister Hazel on the road which includes detail on how they started, their home town, the Rock Boat and the efforts they go to look after their fans. The second part is a 17 track live concert filmed at the House of Blues in Orlando and this is truly spectacular. For a fan from the UK who may not get the opportunity to see this fantastic band live this is such a special DVD - all of the extra's are fantastic but when it comes down to basics it's about the music and this is a brilliant, honest band who write great lyrics and play great songs and this DVD shows that up to perfection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adventurous Fun!, January 22, 2004
This review is from: Sister Hazel - A Life in the Day (DVD)
Sister Hazel has always been one of my favorite bands but not only because they are very talented musicians, but because they are "good people" as well. They take you on tour and you get to experience a taste of how life on the road is for them. It's filled with humorous dialogue that kept me smiling the whole time. The concert footage is fantastic. This is definitely one band that you MUST catch live if you ever get the chance. They are true to their fans and give their all at every one of their shows. Realizing how important their fans are to them, they have a special way of making you feel like a part of the action with a high level of fan interaction. Lastly, this DVD is extremely professionally well done and I was very impressed with the quality of the video and editing techniques ~ like none I've ever seen before. VERY impressive.

5.0 out of 5 stars The new Sister Hazel DVD and Live CD ROCKS, January 29, 2004
This review is from: Sister Hazel - A Life in the Day (DVD)
I've been a long time Fan of SISTER HAZEL and all I can say is the new Live*Live CD and DVD "A Day in The Life" is awesome. Bringing a true live feeling to a CD and DVD is hard enough to do. BUT Sister Hazel has pulled it off. You can hear and feel the unbelievable energy that is at every Sister Hazel show. The CD gives you some of all their CD's from their self-titled (1994) CD to their most recent CD Chasing Daylight (2003). To hear the crowd singing back to the band on every song truly gives you chills up your spine. From the hard ROCK and ROLL songs to the slow meaningful songs this band ROCKS. They put everything they have into each and every song. This double Live CD set is definitely a must have to all true Rock and Roll fans. Also going along with this wonderful live CD is a new Sister Hazel DVD "A Life in the Day". This DVD shows you how the band hits the road. You feel, as you know them all by the end of the DVD. You will laugh and cry but all in all feel great about yourself. At the end of the DVD there is a live show recorded in Florida that I'm sure all would love. So from me to you it's all about the music so go out and get the new CD you wont regret it in the least.

5.0 out of 5 stars This DVD is a must have!, January 31, 2004

This review is from: Sister Hazel - A Life in the Day (DVD)
I expected great things from Sister Hazel's "A Life in the Day", but I was surprised to find it was better than I could have imagined. I would have been happy with just the live concert, but the 90 minute documentary on the road with Sister Hazel was more than a bonus. Sister Hazel not only gives you some of the best music, but shows a lighter side with the road show scenes. I'm ready to go to the next show you have in the area.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best!, January 30, 2004

This review is from: Sister Hazel - A Life in the Day (DVD)
I've been collecting concert DVD's since they first came out, and remember the amazement when I first saw (and heard) Fleetwood Mac's "The Dance" DVD. The sound of a live concert recorded in true 5.1 surround simply blew me away. And since that first DVD, I've grown my collection to over 30 concert DVD's. - Some have been OK, some have been rather average, and some have been fantastic. This new Sister Hazel concert defiantly falls in the later category. It's really a two-in-one bonus. The full-length documentary is as funny as it is insightful as to how these guys live. The Concert portion's sound is top notch. And the visuals are stunning. No washed out shots in this one. The colors look as good as really being at the show.
Few concert DVDs capture the "Live" feeling as well as "A Life in the Day" does. This is truly a new benchmark for concert recordings - and is a must have in anyone's collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this DVD!, January 29, 2004

This review is from: Sister Hazel - A Life in the Day (DVD)
I've seen and met many different artists, but there's something about Sister Hazel that's just different. With a band that's acheved national success and had numerous hits on commercial radio, you tend to expect a little ego or seperation from their audience. That's not the case with SH, and this DVD takes you on a ride to prove they're anything but the norm. It starts out with a feature length documentary that takes you behind the scenes on their 2003 tour. You get to see them in their natural environment just having the time of their lives interacting with those that love their music. From the bus to the stage and everything in between, the whole thing is laiden with sound clips and live performances. When the documentary ends, the show begins -literally. The filming takes you to a full performance at the House of Blues in Orlando. With great camera angles and perfect sound mixing, you get to watch from the best seat in the house -yours!

I've seen DVD's put out by artists that just come across as bland shows with little interviews as extras. It's nice to see SH did it right. You really get a feel for the guys and can't wait for the next show to roll through town.

If you like this, be sure to get "Live, Live", also. It's the concert in CD form so you can take them on the road with you!
