It's the fall and winter season for the sister harem.,
By Gaian Knight "Aleaic" (Imperial Palace Tree, Jurai Prime) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sister Princess, Vol. 5: Gifts From the Heart (DVD)
You know the story by now, and the theme, and if you you've been watching the behind the scenes commentaries up to now, you probably get the individual ways the characters interact, as well as wonder still by now, 'what' gene pool are all of the FROM!?!?
Anywho... Episode 17 - I will admit it, japanese culture is a fetish for moi, and I am part German. So that makes Haruka my personal choice, if it wasn't for the theme the episode took. It starts with the usual fawning of another sister over Wataru, as he goes to one of her Japanese Archery practices. Then when Haruka works up the nerve to ask him to the festival dance, Wataru ends up with a sprained ankle after trying to 'shoo' away a dragonfly from her head. (whata hero no?) In the progress of getting volunteer 'help' from Haruka afterwards to help him heal, he ends up repaying for the lost dance (because of injury time..) by taking her to the Autum Festival. Yeah, Nippon theme type. All the works you expect. But a side story involving a hairpin ends up giving a very touching ending to the eppie, one that made me well satisfied by my 'choice'. This is one of the better ones. (if.. um.. 'interesting' at times.) Episode 18 - This episode is flat OUT wacked. Good, but wacked. =oO=;;; Chikage is the centerpiece here, and Wataru ends up having a strange dream that ends up him with a literal ourt of body experience. Despite what the theme of the story here goes, you just have to feel that Chikage is just as much being serious, as she is with playing him on a string. And give the guy a sword or something next time he has to fight something looking like the Reaper. Sheesh. The part with Yamada trying to convince the other girls Wataru isn't dead is decently done, if it wasn't for the fact the girls even 'next' to Wataru in the room 'don't get it'. Still, a decent, if romantically ominous eppie. (And the part I hear about Chikage as the fan fav has a point from a 'certain' point of view. Episode 19 - You barely even noted she was there unless you were a fan that 'chose' her, and as such, Shirayuki, the Sasami of the Promised Island hold, gets her turn. And Yamada is at his 'worst' in this eppie. As expected, the theme centers on very large and extravagant meals that are 'much' more delectable then they were at first. (Remember the French Toast with salsa bit? Uh, yeah... =xX= ) Well, everyone gets their calories in this one, and thanks to the overly scheming Yamada, everyone gets TOO much by the resolution point of the eppie. (Norishment for the 'heart'? Try that with the AHA round these parts.. =^^= ) In the end, Wataru understands where food comes from (pampered huh?) Shirayuki ends up with a cuddling scene. (Actually needed to 'shift' in my seat some..) And everyone INCLUDING the poor and greviously starving Yamada gets a hefty portion of lunchbox food. (..man, all those cooking anime girls should open their own joint restaraunt or something.. =oO=;; ) Episode 20 - Christmas, and that is as much as I am going to say in review of this episode, because quite bluntly, either you got this far anyway and have seen it all by now, or you haven't. And trust me on this one, if you for whatever reason haven't gotten this Volume, presuming you're a fan, GET IT NOW!!!!!! This episode makes the entire series worthwhile in my opinion. All the cliches are there, but all done very well for this kind of series. Now I only have to get the last two Volumes and wonder what the next overly done harem anime will be. Kinda hard to outdo this and Angel Tales in that department. With Tenchi Muyo out again, the choices are few for the good ones, and Sister Princess goes well enough a mile for it's creative intent for collecting them.
