5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable tale of a Werewolf and a Vet
"My sister is a Werewolf" initially appears to be one of the slightly humorous paranormals that are so popular at the moment. However this book doesn't have any particular humour but it does have a very well-written tale of two people with lots of baggage falling in love and carving out a future together. 5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable tale of a Werewolf and a Vet, June 25, 2007
This review is from: My Sister is a Werewolf (The Young Brothers, Book 4) (Paperback)
"My sister is a Werewolf" initially appears to be one of the slightly humorous paranormals that are so popular at the moment. However this book doesn't have any particular humour but it does have a very well-written tale of two people with lots of baggage falling in love and carving out a future together. It's a follow-up to three other books about the heroine's brothers but this book works fine as a standalone novel and any relevant backstory is given.

Elizabeth Young isn't quite what she seems - a research scientist living in a quiet backwater. Yes, she is those things, but she also has a secret life as a Werewolf and her research aims to 'cure' herself of lycanthropy. She has broken away from her pack and is living on her own but she has a 'mate', Brody, so her life is not her own, even though she has run away from him.

Jensen Adler is the local veterinarian and little else. Since his fiancée Katie died he hasn't dated any other women and isn't really living much of a life, just looking after his grandfather and working. When some friends arrange a blind date for him he finds himself completely knocked sideways by a woman - unfortunately not his date. The woman seems to respond to him and they end up leaving the bar together.

The relationship in this book is rather backwards - sex first, getting to know each other later - but there's a reason for it which becomes clear in due course. However Jensen finds himself with a woman who seems to either try to seduce him or to run away. Her behaviour appears in some ways outrageous but he is also aware that this isn't her normal nature. Jensen notes there are some strange things about Elizabeth, and her brothers are also a bit odd, and yet he continues to try to have a relationship with her and to put up with her vacillations about whether they should see each other.

Most of this book focuses on the relationship between Jensen and Elizabeth. The couple appear on almost every page and even the return of Brody and the potential harm he could cause Jensen doesn't intrude too much into the plot. This story is about characters getting to knew each other and finding out each others' history, even though much has to be kept in the dark.

The writing style in this book was very good and it was an easy read with excellent pacing. Despite the fact that the plot is actually rather thin, it felt like a satisfying book to read and was never boring. I wondered if the author could have made more of the threat from Brody, especially as the final denouement happened very quickly and was solved in a rather facile way, but it was still a worthwhile read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Gem, July 30, 2007
By
Judy "book reader" (Cincinnati, ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Sister is a Werewolf (The Young Brothers, Book 4) (Paperback)
Kathy Love does another hot and sexy tale in My Sister Is A Werewolf.

Elizabeth Young has been finally reunited with her long lost brothers. This should bring her joy but she has that pesky werewolf business to deal with. Plus she is hard at work trying to find a cure for her ailment. Elizabeth can't explain why she is so restless of late, she is on edge. She spots an attractive man at her brother's bar that she approaches for a night of passion with no strings.

Veterinarian Jensen Adler has moved back home to help his aging grandfather with his vet practice. This is also a chance for him to start to socialize again after a tragic loss. When a stunning woman offers to rock his world there is no way he is saying no. But this wild and sexy woman has a sweet and vulnerable side that Jensen is also intrigued by.

Elizabeth and Jensen both have troubled past that are affecting their daily lives. When a man from Elizabeth's past tries to cause trouble, Elizabeth tries to protect her love ones. But Jensen has his own ideas about keeping Elizabeth safe.

My Sister Is A Werewolf is a wonderful addition to the previous books in this series. It was a special treat for me to reconnect with her brothers and their mates. Seeing them interact with Elizabeth just made me love them more. This book is another keeper for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Werewolfs Have Needs, July 18, 2009
This review is from: My Sister is a Werewolf (The Young Brothers, Book 4) (Paperback)
This is the fourth book in the Young brother series. Elizabeth is the three brother's sister and is a werewolf. If you have not read the other books and plan to - don't read any further. You can read this book as a stand alone, but it makes much more sense if you read the first three. Elizabeth was turned into a werewolf when she was 28 and thought her brothers were dead. She ran with a rough pack and lost most of her innocents. She finally figures out that she needs to be human again and leaves the pack, sets out on her own, to find a cure and her brothers. Once with her brothers she works night and day on the cure - only to be interrupted by love. She meets Jensen at her brother's bar and a hot passionate love affair begins. This is not as steamy as the other three books, but the characters are fun and the story is imaginative.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly entertaining werewolf romance, but it didn't dig very deep, June 25, 2009
This review is from: My Sister is a Werewolf (The Young Brothers, Book 4) (Paperback)
Plot Summary: Elizabeth Young has an old and interesting family. Her brothers are vampires, and she's been a werewolf for nearly 200 years. She ran away from her cruel mate, Brody, and she's researching cures to her `problem,' but nothing feels right. Elizabeth has been inexplicably edgy and anxious, and when she spots Jensen Adler in a bar one night, her hormones take over. She uses this mortal man (every guy should be so lucky) and then vows to never see him again, but like moths to the flame, they both feel drawn to each other. At first, their relationship is all about physical gratification, but the romance blossoms despite their mutual reluctance. Meanwhile, Elizabeth's werewolf mate has tracked her down, and she's part of his plan to gain control of their pack.

Everything worked well here, but I just wasn't wowed into giving this book a higher rating. I enjoyed the read, but I don't think I'll remember it down the road, which puts it firmly in the category of nice, but forgettable. Based on the cover art, and the allusions to excessive body-hair problems for a female werewolf, I had high hopes that this would be a romantic comedy, but no, the humor was thin at best.

The romance took center stage, and I give Kathy Love props for keeping it rolling even though the characters did the wild monkey dance before they knew each other's names. Usually I prefer to see a slow build up to the big climax, so to speak, but this relationship was worked in reverse, and I have no complaints in this case. Elizabeth's wolf-in-heat condition literally transforms her proper good-girl personality into a wanton dominatrix, and like any red-blooded American male, Jensen's bits are along for the ride, even if his brain hasn't caught up yet.

Both characters do more self-flagellation over their respective pasts than I thought was absolutely necessary, but the story was light on angst, so I guess it had to come from somewhere. The bad guy, Brody, was too one-dimensional to make him anything more than a weak boogeyman from the past, and Elizabeth's former pack makes a regretfully brief (blink and you'll miss it) appearance. I thought a lot more could have been drawn from the evil mate and former pack material, and it felt like a missed opportunity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Werewolf Romance (B+ Grade), November 24, 2008
This review is from: My Sister is a Werewolf (The Young Brothers, Book 4) (Paperback)
Finally, an author has written an exceptional werewolf romance with an unyielding female as its lead. Kathy Love's My Sister is a Werewolf is loosely connected to her other series featuring three vampire brothers; this story is about their baby sister, an intelligent and loving woman who wants to be "normal," which means being human.

Elizabeth Young is a centuries old werewolf who relocated to Shady Fork, West Virginia after reuniting with her three brothers. Elizabeth lost her family after they were attacked by an evil vampire. It is never fully explained, but Elizabeth became a victim of a werewolf and was believed to be dead. She was discovered by alpha werewolf Brody Devlin, and lived with his pack until seven years ago when she choose to escape his maniacal rule.

The most important thing in Elizabeth's life at the moment is the creation of a vaccine to cure her "ailment." Lately, her concentration has been off and she has become restless with an irritating need for something - or rather someone - who can make it stop. Elizabeth has no idea that her "true mate" resides in the same town and she finds him at her brother's bar one night, where she has gone to let out her frustrations. She knows the moment when she lays eyes on Jensen Adler that he can help scratch her itch.

Jensen is the town's only veterinarian and lives with his loving grandfather. He refuses to let go of his guilt over the death of his high school sweetheart and the one night he finally agrees to go out with his friends, he is instantly enthralled with Elizabeth and overcome with lust. He soon leaves the bar because he can't handle the uncomfortable reaction but doesn't get very far because Elizabeth is waiting for him in the parking lot where they proceed to have some very hot sex in his truck. Afterwards, they are both horrified - Jensen as he doesn't even know her name, and Elizabeth because she feels as though her body has taken over her mind.

Elizabeth is the aggressor in this relationship at first, but all too soon Jensen wants more than just sweaty, mind-numbing sex with his mysterious lady. But she is not too keen on having a new boyfriend - how will she be able to hide her werewolf nature and find a cure? To say nothing of her psycho werewolf mate Brody, who could show up at any time to destroy her new happiness.

Brody himself is an interesting piece of work as he has no morals or scruples. His mind is so far gone that he can't decide if he still wants Elizabeth back or just wants to kill her because she has become so deeply involved with a human. Brody also comprehends the exact nature of Elizabeth and Jensen's relationship before either one of them does, which puts them both in grave danger.

Elizabeth eventually grasps that living as a werewolf may be a good thing rather than a hindrance while Jensen tries not to fall in love again because he has become so emotionally scarred from his fiancée's unfortunate demise. But, thankfully, he comes to the realization that his life isn't over sooner, rather than later, which helped things move along nicely. Elizabeth and Jensen do complete each other and by the end I believed they were perfect mates in every sense. The only disappointment I had was that the ending felt too sudden and too pat.

Kathy Love's past works tended to be very tame and a tad fluffy, so I was very surprised to discover My Sister Is a Werewolf (despite it's dreadful title and cover art) to be very insightful, erotic, and suspenseful. I enjoyed reading Elizabeth's journey to "being normal." So what if she howls at the full moon and becomes furry at certain times of the month?

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting..., December 28, 2007

This review is from: My Sister is a Werewolf (The Young Brothers, Book 4) (Paperback)
Great start to the book. Wonderful sex scenes, very hot. The writing or editing (I'm not sure which) falters a little at the end. When the hero is attacked by the bad guy his senses change (he can see in the dark). It seemed to me that he had started his "change" into a werewolf hero, but in the climax the heroine had to change him. So, what happened? Was it a miss in the editing or a plot change in the writing that never got fixed? Minor complaints, The Young Brothers Series is well worth the read. The first in the series is my favorite. I keep waiting for her to get that good again. She almost did in "Wanting What You Get", but I'm still waiting.
Kathy Love is well worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!!!, January 7, 2011
The Young brothers novels are well written and incredibly sexy. The plots are great and it is hard to put these books down. Elizabeth/Lizzie and Jensen has some great sex scenes and this book stays HOT all the way through. Kathy Love has another hit on her hands.

This review is from: My Sister is a Werewolf (The Young Brothers, Book 4) (Paperback)
Another great book by Kathy Love! After reading, and you must read these also, "Fangs For The Memories", "Fangs But No Fangs", and "I Only Have Fangs For You", the books about 3 vampire brothers of Elizabeth who is a werewolf. I recommend you read those 3 books before reading this sequel to get her backstory. But Elizabeth is a sexy and wild werewolf who meets a hot animal doctor, yes he is a vet named Jensen. From the moment they get hot and heavy in the front of his pickup truck, Jensen is hooked on this mysterious and sexy girl. Little does he know he wants a werewolf in heat!! You will love this story as much as you will love all of Kathy Love's books!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY... a good werewolf romance!!, September 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: My Sister is a Werewolf (The Young Brothers, Book 4) (Paperback)
The story of the Young brothers little sister (and werewolf) Elizabeth is a great change from all the vampire romance that's become so popular. It's nice to find a super sexy paranormal romance about a werewolf. The story is quite light and fluffy but that doesn't detract from it at all. I'm not going to sumarize because that's already been done but as in the previous books in the series, Kathy Love sure knows how to write a steamy, sexy love scene. Add that to the drama and danger of Elizabeth and good guy vetrinarian Jensen trying to find a way through all of their personal baggage to be together and you've got yourself a really good weekend romance.

The only true negative I can find with this book is that having read the first 3 books in the series, it was kind of predictable. There was no doubt about the ending of the story. That's really the only thing keeping me from giving 5 *'s.
