more a series of amusing anecdotal tales,
This review is from: Sisterchicks Go Brit! (Sisterchicks Series #7) (Paperback)
Though in their early fifties, best friends Kellie and Liz have dreams since they were teens they hope to one day fulfill. Kellie still wishes to start an interior design business with Liz as her partner; Liz wants to visit London, a dream she has had since she was a teen.
Elderly neighbor Opal is going home to England to see her sister. Liz and Kellie decide to join her. As the Sisterchicks swing through England, they run into trouble, fog, and a good time while meeting nice people (for the most part), but also begin to understand that God knows their inner wishes whether the Lord grants them or not. Fans of the series will want to accompany the Sisterchicks on their tour of Britain, which instead of the Romanism of Bronte starts as traffic like can be found in New York. The story line is actually more a series of anecdotal tales rather than a novel, but fans of the adventures will enjoy the SISTERCHICKS GO BRIT. Harriet Klausner

A quick trip to Britian with good friends,

This review is from: Sisterchicks Go Brit! (Sisterchicks Series #7) (Paperback)
The dearest kindness a woman can offer herself in the autumn of her years is the permission to take risks, or so says Opal, a hot-pink tennis shoe clad seventy-nine-year-young Sisterchick.
That's just what midlife mamas Liz and Kellie learn to do when they escort Opal to Great Britain. Very little of their trip goes as planned as they are first detained in Olney during Pancake Day, detoured to Oxford when they thought they were heading to London, and navigating the "tube," "coaches," and teatime. Fans of the Sisterchicks books will find in Sisterchicks Go Brit! another wonderful story of "friends who share the deepest wonders of your heart, love you like a sister, and provide a reality check with you're being a brat." Returning readers of the series won't be disappointed with this foray into all things British. Those not familiar with the Sisterchicks should pick a destination and prepare to travel with friends (if only in your imagination). It's always fun to read about moms being people and experiencing life without being mired down in motherhood duties-it gives me hope! Maybe someday I'll go gallivanting around with a good friend without having to worry about school schedules and diapers. I especially enjoyed reading an outsider's view of Pancake Day in Olney. I can only speak of same event held annually in the sister city of Liberal, Kansas, but it is just as crazy-or more-than she described. And I can't believe that Tolkien and Lewis' homes aren't museums. The people who live there probably go crazy with the tourists. I want to be crazy enough to hop out of the taxi and take photos of the gnomes! Overall, I feel like I've just returned from a British vacation with friends-and I can't wait to go on another. Armchair Interviews agrees.

I love the Sister chick adventures. This book was okay but not one of my favorites--the story line is a bit boring. A good read but not as interesting as the other Sister chick adventures.

Liz and Kelly, by chance meeting or God ordained, meet Opal in La-La Brew Coffee Shop ,which sets things in motion for Kelly to get her interior design company off the ground when Opal decides to hire her to redo her apartment. Opal wants to go back to England to visit her twin sister and drafts our midlife divas to help her get there.
Nothing about this trip goes as our ladies have planned, but both women know that God has ordained and taken care of everything from a balloon ride, madcap taxi rides, even accused of being a terrorist, to returning to the states with the wrong twin! Every wish of both women's hearts comes true, even fulfilling Liz's crush on Big Ben. See the sights of England from Olney, Oxford to London through our midlife divas' eyes. This book is absolutely amazing. This reviewer felt she was in England with Liz and Kelly having tea time at the Ritz, Windsor Castle and all the other amazing things our ladies did while there, at the same time keeping you in stitches with the madcap escapades. Author Robin Jones Gunn has done an outstanding job of bringing her characters to life. But whatever you do, grasp hold of the teachings God has for our Sisterchicks, for they pertain to our own lives as well!

The way the author draws the reader into the story is hilarious for me. Each time I've read one of her books, I felt like I really wanted to be there experiencing what the characters experienced.
I thoroughly enjoy the antics...some times the author's writing reminds me of watching an old episode of "I Love Lucy." When reading and you come upon a happenstance, all you can say is 'uh-oh, something's gonna happen.' And sure enough the author does not fail to deliver chuckles and a shake of the head or two...thankful that you aren't doing the things they do....but secretly wanting to.....I sure have enjoyed her writings.

I loved this book as much as ALL the rest of the Sisterchick books I have read. I felt like I was in England with them and all their adventures and twists and turns in the plot were great. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fun and adventure. As I said before I've read all the books in this series and hope Robin Jones Gunn writes more.

A Light-Hearted Read, Brit Style,
This review is from: Sisterchicks Go Brit! (Sisterchicks Series #7) (Paperback)
"The nicest gift a woman can give herself is to take risks," Robin Jones Gunn writes in her latest novel, Sisterchicks Go Brit. In this story, middle-aged friends Kellie and Liz go on the adventure of a lifetime and do more than explore Great Britain; they also discover their faith, friendship, and personal dreams.
Sisterchicks Go Brit is a light read with a nice message: You're never too old to make the most of your life, and you won't know what you're missing if you never try new things. The characters are enjoyable and easy to relate to. The plot is lighthearted and fun, though I thought there was too much detail in the sightseeing episodes. This is the first of Gunn's novels I've read, and I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another when I'm next in the mood for a beach read. by Jennifer Melville for Story Circle Book Reviews reviewing books by, for, and about women

Liz has dreamed of going to England and meeting Big Ben since she was 15 years old. Kellie has long dreamed of opening her own interior design business. These two best friends have both of their dreams fulfilled through Opal, an elderly woman's, machinations. Opal wants to return to her native England to visit her twin sister Rose and after being thrilled with Kellie and Liz's renovation on her apartment, gifts them tickets to go along with her. Gunn's Sisterchick books are wonderful travelogues with lessons on faith and friendship on the way. This book didn't have the kind of depth I've become accustomed to in previous books in the series, but Gunn's description of England makes me want to book my flight out today!
