Book Description

Childhood Friends Reunite to Rendezvous!

All giggles and wiggles, Lisa and Amy sealed their friendship under the pink ruffles of a canopy bed, promising to be friends forever. They remained inseparable until an argument over Lisa’s prom date divides them. In a plan that could only be devised by their heavenly Father, Amy and Lisa end up in the same hospital emergency room years later. With their promise to always be there for each other unexpectedly fulfilled, the two friends grow close again. Amy reminds Lisa of one of their childhood promises yet to be realized—their plan to rendezvous in Paris . Amy and Lisa find a way to make good on their Parisian promise from thirty years ago and pack their bags for the adventure of a lifetime. From becoming unexpected counselors for a rocky marriage to scaling the Eiffel Tower to winking at Mona Lisa in the Louvre, these two Sisterchicks find the treasures of Europe can’t compare with the gems of a friendship renewed for eternity!

C’est magnifique!

SISTERCHICK n.: a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you’re being a brat.

When they were little girls, Amy made Lisa promise her that someday they’d go to Paris and walk down the Champs-Elysées together looking tres chic. After all, Amy’s classy grandmother was from Paris. Then over the years, they drifted apart. But some promises seem to be held for safekeeping in the courts of heaven until the time is right, and these reconnected friends-for-life are handed the opportunity to see Paris together! Lisa’s only response to her patient friend is, “Oui oui, mon ami!”

The City of Lights turns out to be all Amy ever promised, with world-class shopping, flaky croissants, the Eiffel Tower, Monet’s Water Lilies, and food running the gamut from frog legs to fabulous chocolate. Of course, there are also con men, indignant waiters, and spring cloudbursts. But nothing deters these Sisterchicks as they set out to climb a few personal “ Eiffel Towers” in this next season of life. The only way to go is step by step together under the careful protection of their Heavenly Papa, who showers them with grace upon grace.

Story Behind the Book

“Each of the Sisterchicks books portrays the reality of how a close friendship between two women can draw them closer to God, and reveal clear direction for their futures. In Sisterchicks Say Ooh-La-La!, readers discover the value of rekindling an old friendship and replacing old, incorrect assumptions with new truth. I hope readers will take away a sense of God’s immense plan for His children and His unending grace in every season of life.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Vive la Paris!, December 13, 2005
This review is from: Sisterchicks Say Ooh La La! (Sisterchicks Series #5) (Paperback)
In this light, fun and sometimes touching novel, two forty-something lifelong buddies finally realize their dream and travel to Paris. They are on a mission--to meet a friend of Amy's grandmother. And this happens in a linen shop on Rue Cler. This was a pleasant surprise for me as this picturesque little market street a few blocks from the Eiffel Tower is where my husband and I stayed in a cute little hotel, the Grand Hotel Leveque two winters ago as a lifelong dream of my own.

They also dine at a tiny restaurant which sounded much like nearby La Varangue, where the owner Philippe was usually the only chef and server. One busy night, he was out of an entree I wanted, so offered to make me something special. A lot of Americans would not choose what he offered me, but I loved
it--chicken livers in a sauce of Balsamic vinegar! Delicious! Hey, it was Paris!

A sweet part that really touched me: Amy and Lisa sat in Cathedral Notre Dame, and a little girl ran in and hid behind a column. Without knowing it, she solved a mystery of life for Amy, which I won't give away. "Grace upon grace," Lisa tells us.

Amy's ultimate conquest of the Eiffel Tower is pretty and satisfying, a triumph over many things.

I left the book on my ottoman and picked it up several times after finishing it just to re-read that chapter about God's sweet love.

Robin refers to the women using a guide book. _Rick Steves' Paris_ is the book we used, where we found Rue Cler, the Hotel Grand Leveque and La Varangue.

The City of Light is a beautiful main character, itself, and Robin Jones Gunn shows her love for it in vivid descriptions of shopping, dining, history and beautiful, detailed scenery that place the reader right there.

Nevertheless, the marvelous setting never outweighs the story of the love of friendship renewed and the love of God discovered.

Vive la Paris!

This was the most wonderful book in the series yet! I loved it. I received in the morning and had finished reading it that night. I could not put it down. I laughed, and cried, and thought of my best friend the whole time. Keep it up, Robin - anixously awaiting the next one.

An encouraging "read" that pushed me to remember that we can always grow in the weak areas of our lives. I love Robin Jones Gunn's books and this book is a great success as she continues to highlight the blessing of having and being a good friend.
