Top flight depression
This is like a perfect blend of Bergman and Tarkovskij. Not for everyone, of course.

Great movie, awful transfer
"Sisters or the Balance of Happiness" is a beautiful movie by Margarethe von Trotta, one of her best. A marvellous cast and a poignant, beautifully told story. Unfortunately, the DVD is a mere, sloppy VHS transfer with washed-out colours and hard-coded subtitles.
