The bond between sisters is profound and unique. In original essays and photographs, here is a moving portrayal of a relationship like no other.

These women speak of the wisdom and experience they share with their sisters. They are writers, athletes, students, painters, socialites, and teachers. They tell how they share challenges in the same careers, compete in different professions, and battle together against illness.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Saline (Straight Talk) interviews 36 sets of sisters ranging from preschoolers to octogenarians. Some are well known (tennis star Chris Evert and sisters Jeanne and Clare; model Christy Turlington and sisters Erin and Kelly; Coretta Scott King and her sister Edythe). Others (Donna, Debbie and Shirley Masiejczyk, each a police officer; Catherine and Mary Glackin, both nuns) are also worth knowing. This exploration of a special relationship is made even more affecting by the black-and-white photographs of the sisters taken by Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Wohlmuth. 50,000 first printing; $35,000 ad/promo.

5.0 out of 5 stars moving moments, December 17, 1999
This review is from: Sisters (Hardcover)
I loved this book that my sister gave me for Christmas. She added her own thoughts and a picture on the last page. I was so extremely moved and the stories and photos are representative of sisters everywhere. Daughters and Mothers is also a fantastic book. I saw one of the authors and bought one for my daughter who is 15 yrs old. I had her sign it to both of us. Very sweet!

Saline and Wohlmuth have done it again. The creators of this genre went back and brought us up to date with wonderful essays and images. I loved reading the first edition. The tenth edition made me fall in love again with Carol.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and interesting, December 29, 2007
Whether you've got sisters or not, this over sized set of non-fiction essays and photos of 35 sets of sisters (some pairs, some trios) is sure to hold your interest. It's fascinating to read the variances between behaviors of sisters still in their teens (they don't get along) and sisters well into adulthood--they're tight as knots.

It's a terrific 131 page read, a great gift for your sister (if you have one), or a fun way to spend an hour if you happen across a copy on someone's coffee table, as I did.
