5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down
This well written book was hard to put down. The characters were very well developed. I was disappointed that one reviewer chose to tell too much about the ending, & ruined it a bit for me. This is one of those books that you think about for a long time after reading it. Some of the free books are not worth my time, but this one is a very good read. My only complaint...

2.0 out of 5 stars I Disagree with most everyone!
I have read many sweet love stories and this was NOT one of them! This was one of the most depressing books I have ever read! I kept hoping the characters would have some sort of conviction about their thought lives that would spill over into their actions, but it never happened. Unfortunatley, I am not one to close a book without finishing it. I want to give the author...

I am not normally a reader of romance novels. I usually read thrillers or mysteries. But I figures why not try it, it is free. I really was surprised by this book and enjoyed it.I not being a romance novel fan actually liked the way the book did not end all Candy and Roses. But just like the other reviewer did not care for the spoiled brat lil sister either. I am getting the other books by this auther on my kindle.

I have read many sweet love stories and this was NOT one of them! This was one of the most depressing books I have ever read! I kept hoping the characters would have some sort of conviction about their thought lives that would spill over into their actions, but it never happened. Unfortunatley, I am not one to close a book without finishing it. I want to give the author every opportunity to prove I am wrong about whether I like it or not. In this case, I should have tossed it aside - everyone loses!

Another negative thing is that the author over-used exclamation points throughout the whole book and it was very irritating!!!

The only reason I gave this book 2 stars is because I did like how the author used words to describe scenes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sisters, August 7, 2010

I enjoyed this book very much as it kept me wondering until the end. It is a good character study that I agree makes you think for a while after you have finished reading it. I was disappointed in all of the characters, save two: Alix and the father. But those two more savory characters are a good contrast to the rest of the characters. If I could sum up this story in short, I would say it is less a romance novel than a bird's-eye view of the different personalities of people you could meet in your own life and the cause and effect they have upon each other depending on their behavior; like freight trains on one end, and the silent tracks they slide over, on the other. Knowing this about the characters is the reason why I also had to think more about Alix and the effect she had on the rest of them towards the end of the novel. Was the outcome of her actions more well thought out than what they originally appeared on the surface? You read it and decide.

The story line was enough to keep you wadding through the book. It got a bit boring because you could see the ending coming about half-way through the text.

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging story of love, April 13, 2009
This review is from: Sisters (Kindle Edition)
Well written engaging story of three sisters who wed - while two marry the wrong man. Unfortunately, the youngest most beautiful sister is the cause of most of the angst. She is immature and spoiled and it takes her almost the whole entire novel before she grows into her marriage after destroying her loyal, loving sister. The end, I have to admit, I predicted even before I finished reading it. I am still angry at the husband of the loyal sister for not recognizing what he had until it was too late. Is that so hard? Is recognizing love and loyalty so difficult for a man? He did not appreciate her simple love and so, lost it. Honestly, even dogs recognize love. They probably do this better then most people. Which is why I always have dogs around as did the loyal sister.

5.0 out of 5 stars sisters, November 25, 2010
This review is from: Sisters (Kindle Edition)
i bought this book because it was free and honestly could not put it down. typical of the 'soap opera' style of the 1920s and with the flowery language of novels of that day, nonetheless the story was fascinating. i did skip through the language a bit because i could hardly believe what was happening and wanted to get to the final outcome. very bittersweet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth reading this one, May 2, 2010

It took me a while to get into this book because of the flowery writing style of yesteryear but I'm glad I kept on with it. After finally getting into the style of writing I was surprised at how this book hooked me and kept me reading it. The ending was not how I wanted this book to turn out though. However Sisters is well worth the download. I recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars One Sister "Won" But at Too High a Price, September 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sisters (Kindle Edition)
Caution - I'm spoiling the plot here if you have not read this book, and care, do not read on!

This moralistic tale left me feeling that Alix, the "wronged" sister, who in large part went out of her way to nurture others, won a pyrrhic victory. Alix kills herself in a contrived auto accident, "so that Cherry can be with Peter, Alix's husband". And of course, those who survive are perpetually unhappy thereafter. While reading this book, I felt frustrated that someone, anyone, should have set the younger sister, Cherry, straight, from the very first chapter. But then there would not have been a story to tell, I guess. The idiot younger sister, Cherry, would not listen to her father before entering a premature marriage, and then and thereafter, everyone catered to Cherry simply because she was "beautiful". I got tired of hearing how lovely Cherry was. Give me a break. The woman was an immature idiot and the whole novel caters to her physical beauty.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bizarre ending untrue to character development, July 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sisters (Kindle Edition)
The author spent a lot of time developing the characters and giving us a good sense of who they are and what makes them tick, then she turns around and hurriedly wraps it all up with them all acting as if they forgot who they were. I found the ending too contrived and not true to the way that the characters had, thus far, presented themselves. In summary, I appreciated the author's ability to relate the characters, but felt that the plot itself was not true to them.
