This is brilliant!,
This review is from: Sisters of the Red Death (Audio CD)
To start off, the lyrics and music on the opening track, sent shivers down my spine. I read their article in AP and was amazed at the themes and subject matter on this CD, and I couldn't wait to hear it for myself. The album is in essence like a novel from the perspective of Gloria (the main character throughout the whole album). It's based on an ancient cult that would set themselves on fire to purify their souls, the hypocrisy within religious institutions, mix in some ancient greek characters such as Medusa, and brutally discriptive lyrics sung with genuine emotion and sincerity, and a story of overcoming and Gloria's rise to power, and her eventual revenge. This is simply brilliant! I hope I didn't give anything away, since it is like a poetic novel or movie set to music, but so many reviewers are bashing the lyrics without even understanding the story the words are telling. These are definately not sugar coated lyrics, but instead are as honest as any I have ever heard. This album will definately take you for a ride, with emotional highs and lows unlike any I have heard before. And in the end it will leave you feeling like any great psycologically twisting movie, and you'll ask yourself "what the hell was that?" and absolutely love it.
Key tracks: "Vendetta Red Cried Rape On Their Date With Destiny," "Silhouette Serenade," & "Gloria."

Another work of art.,

Vendetta Red does it again folks. The pervious album Between Never and Now was excellent. I believe that VR has outdone themselves this time. I had a chance to hear the songs in concert before the album came out and i was blown away. Then the CD came out and i was blown away again. In Lieu of Dead Brides is the best with Ryann from Schoolyard Heroes.

A Brave and Brilliant Classic...,
By JPE (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sisters of the Red Death (Audio CD)
Following their jack-of-all-trades major label debut (hyped to the stars but ultimately underperforming) Vendetta Red have decided to throw caution to the wind and write probably the best ultra violent, ultra brutal post-nuclear war feminist concept album ever released...
Every one of these songs is easily a stone-cold classic, but probably the best thing about this album is that the band never relents. Each song is superb in itself but the reckless abandon with which they throw chorus after chorus at you, song after song, all wrapped up in off-kilter Bowie verses, punk rhythms, thrashing drums, and probably the single bravest vocal and lyrical performance I've ever been treated to makes this album stand far and above any album released this year. What other band can you name that leave an awesome, fist-pumping anthem as the last song on their album because they just know the quality of what precedes it? To be honest, this album will likely under perform as well, but not for the efforts of the band (the lyrical content is far too bleak for the mainstream - rape, murder, war, castration). If you're even reading this review, you're interested to find out about this record so let me lay it out for you: buy this album now, because you're going to be treated to the most courageous, down-right brilliant rock album ever - moving, tuneful, exciting, witty and unique.

Even better then their debut album,
A Kid's Review

Like the user before I was looking forward to this album for awhile. I had seen Vendetta Red live and they were amazing, they sounded great and really made the crowd apart of their show. One disappointment that I had with their first major label release was that the album was so over produced the vocals and instruments were way to clean. On this album you get a better feel for Zach's voice and the instruments sound much better so that is a major improvement. I think these guys have grown a great deal musicaly from there last album, though I love the screaming on their first album it was out a place on a couple of songs and the lyrics were a little outplace and sounded funny. But with this new album they scream on the right songs in the right places and the lyrics are just a huge improvement, I know some people don't like it but I don't mind it at all and I like it. Overall this is a great album and a huge improvement on their already amazing debut album.

Sisters of the Red Death blows BTNAN away...,

I have been very eagerly awaiting the arrival of this cd for quite some time, i preordered it directly from sony and i am glad to say it was worth the wait. All preconceived notions aside this album is simply incredible. The subject matter is something some may be offended by, as it talks about rape, murder, things that happen behind closed doors at catholic schools, and castration to name a few. But if you can overlook that you will definately be singing along with all the catchy hooks for months to come.

Midevil Horror Album,

I was very anxiously awaiting this new album, and I was not disappointed. If you have enjoyed Vendetta's past work then Sisters of the Red Death will be a winner. The albums artwork on the cover is a theme that is very closely followed with the lyrics. Vendetta speaks of medusa, banshee's, and severed hands clapping...it's quite gory. I don't get my kicks from these type of topics, though the music is well worth the "shivers" you get when they speak of their horror. Vendetta Red is able to package it all together; melody, tempo, singing, screaming, and all in all rocking out. Though I have only had the album a couple of days, it has already made my top alternative album released in 2005 (I'm still waiting on Thrice and Brand New's album release this fall). Enjoy, though buckle up for sum graphic lyrics.

I am quite convinced that these guys are what Finch would have become, if they decided to keep improving in the sound of their first album, instead of going hogwild with screamy emo-ness.
These guys are awesome. The songs bleed with beautiful harmonies. Attention to every detail in the songs are here, different sounds, beats, harmonies in unexpected places. I love the fact that they sound happy about everything that they are singing about. Even things like "They make love to your face with a boxcutter." They just sound so happy about it. The music is awesome, and I really am waiting for their next album. Pick this up if you like the OLD Finch!!!

I was a little sad listening to the latest from Vendetta Red. The songs all sound sweet, I like almost all of them from a musical standpoint, but their subject matter just turns my stomach. I guess I wasn't expecting such horrific, detailed gore in every song. It kind of ruined the cd for me. If that doesn't turn you off though I'd highly recommend it cuz the music kicks @$$.
