Book Description

May 1, 2004
From two veteran television directors, here is a comprehensive career handbook to the most popular form of comedy in the world: the television sitcom. Revealed are the rules, the language, and the traditions of this popular art form and how the pacing, jokes, and dialogue in a sitcom differ from those in film and theater. The authors walk readers through a typical, five-day sitcom schedule and offer a colorful, first-person account of what it feels like to be on the set. Most importantly, they offer insider information on how to launch a career in this exciting industry. Included are profiles of several behind-the-scenes careers in television, complete with information about salary, educational requirements, career track, and how to break-in. The Sitcom Career Book will show readers why working on a sitcom is one of the best jobs in Hollywood.

5.0 out of 5 stars thought you knew?, June 22, 2004
By
willam (hollywood, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Sitcom Handbook (Paperback)
I just finished reading this book and enjoyed it. It read like a magazine article. Info, info, personal account, summaries, and recaps. It kept me interested by giving the personal insights of actors, casting directors and sitcom vets (all recognizable names unless you're under a rock) who are point blank right on...they don't mince words and the honesty is refreshing and often amusing. They quiz their readers at the end of each section, walk you through a week on set and negate the purchase of any other "how-to" sitcom book for an actor
