I you love Microsoft products (like me) because they are simple, ready to use, intuitive, ... you might be disappointed by Site Server Commerce Edition 3.0. Don't think you will be able to use all of its features if you're not a software engineer. Don't even think you can do it if you never installed NT or SQL server on a machine. Site Server Commerce Edition 3.0 is a package. It contains products bought by Microsoft from other companies and products specifically developped with integration in mind. Integration with Operating Systems from Microsoft (client and server OS). Integration with database engines (SQL server essentially, even if Oracle is supported). Integration with mail services (Exchange as a server, Outlook as a client). Developement tools (Visual Interdev, Visual Studio). If you know all of these products you will not only love Site Server, you will love it. If you don't know these products and technologies but you simply have an opportunity to use Site Server 3.0 (because somebody uses it in your company), ask for Site Analyst. It's a wonderful and powerful tool bought by Microsoft that allow you to make an impressive report about a web-site. I used it once for copyright holders. They asked me to track potential users of their materials on the net. Site analyst did a terrific job! If you don't need integration with banking services. If you don't want to build online shops. You just need to buy Site Server 3.0. You will miss the wonderful "pipeline" paradigm used to integrate e-commerce composants. Microsoft is investing a lot on Biztalk, now. Integration with this new concept will be provided to Site Server 3.0. Commerce Edition.
