Biography

Doing the unexpected has almost become expected of LeAnn Rimes. From her hit “Blue” nearly 15 years ago to her impressive new concept album of classic country standards, Lady & Gentlemen, LeAnn has always bravely followed her own inner compass and consistently maintained her musical integrity rather than simply following the musical trends of the day.
Listening to her instincts has resulted in… Read more in Amazon's LeAnn Rimes Store

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

"El stinko," writes one Amazon.com customer, but to be fair to Rimes, her second album since the surprising debut Blue is more misguided than merely bad. She bites off more than she can chew, and producer Wilbur Rimes (LeAnn's father) tries to force-feed warmed-over Adult Contemporary arrangements and overheated pop fare ("Purple Rain" may be the silliest cover in "country" history), the kind neither Rimes nor the listener can easily swallow. Sittin' on Top of the World may be an advance from the truculent You Light Up My Life, but Rimes's talents are being squelched by the superstar machine. Still, with the right production and right songs, Rimes may yet make a consistently strong country album. --Roy Kasten

5.0 out of 5 stars I HAAAAAAATE COUNTRY MUSIC!!!!, July 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Sittin' On Top Of The World (Audio CD)
I hate country music, but I love LeAnn Rimes! To all of you out there chastising her for sounding too Pop, LAY OFF!!! If you as fans try to compromise an artist's art, then it becomes meaningless. If you like Reba and Brooks & Dunn, Faith & Tim, George or Garth, Dolly or Tammy, fine. Continue listening to them. DO NOT try to compromise an artist. I have a cousin who's sold over 12 million albums in the rock genre, believe me, it just doesn't work. Sittin' On Top of the World is great. I just loved it, because of the guitar sounds, it's so different from anything else in the Country or Pop genres. This album is a perfect blend of the two. My favorite tune is 'Nothin New Under the Moon' (track 7). It's got a groove that makes me dance around my bedroom. Track 10, 'More Than Anyone Deserves' is LeAnn's first co-written song that has been released and is a bonafide winner. It is the best ballad on the disc. You go girl, if there ever was a person I roo! ted for in the music business (besides my cousin), it is LeAnn and I do. I knew she was somethin' special when I saw her on Star Search! I can't wait until she gets to be 18 or 20, what an artist she is and can be!

2.0 out of 5 stars What was she thinking?, April 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sittin' On Top Of The World (Audio CD)
When I first listened to this album, I thought "Wow! What an awesome CD!" However, the more I listened to it, the more I disliked it. I started noticing all of the errors that are contained on this album. First of all, I agree with previous reviewers: the production on this album is ridiculous. Each and every song is over produced. LeAnn's voice is magnified (which is unnecessary) on every song, and most of them have an echo! Also, very little of the material on this album is original. Too many remakes. And those of you who congratulated her for the "original" song Rock Me: That song isn't original! That was a remake, too. It was recorded several years ago by country singer Deborah Allen. Also, LeAnn sings far too many pop songs on this album. I realize that country-pop is what's "popular" today, but I think you have to draw the line somewhere. I mean, a "country" artist singing a Prince song is absurd! Not to mention the pop remakes she did of Jan Arden and Amanda Marshall songs. This album should not have been in the country genre. There is very little country music on the whole CD. In fact, there is very little good music on this CD period! Her dad needs to lay off the production and lay off the magnification of LeAnn's voice. I wish her better luck in the future. It's sad to think that she's so young, and yet her career may have ended before it really ever started.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Album., June 10, 2006
This review is from: Sittin' On Top Of The World (Audio CD)
This is an excellent collection of a pop and country songs that just put you in a good mood. LeAnn Rimes voice is so clear and powerful that it will just blow you away. This album captures such an innocent sound and Leann sounds just like a sweet country girl. The tracks "Rock Me" and "Undeniable" are the albums strongest songs and LeAnn does an amazing performance of Prince's "Purple Rain". My opinion is that this is LeAnn Rimes strongest album and is a must for any fan of hers.
