5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent band with a refreshing sound, April 12, 2004

The best way to descirbe these young men from Minneapolis is the blend the old school with the new. Their sound is fantastic! Their sound is also refreshing, unique and original. I have a 5 disc CD changer in my car, their CD remains the one I never change.

I would say if you like Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, NERD, Prince or anyone that sounds close to them, you will love these guys.

You will not be dissapointed if you buy this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rare Find, June 23, 2004
This review is from: Sitting Around Keeping Score (Audio CD)
My first exposure to SpyMob was at a show in DC this May. Eric, the drummer, gave me a copy of the CD later and I listened to it nonstop. I have to warn you, I'm a huge MSP music scene fan so I might be a bit bias... but this is a great album. In an age of free downloads and ripping music, this is one of the rare CDs I would actually be willing to pay full price to own. It's got songs for every mood and the lyrics are amazing. This is a band with musical talent and a great sense of humor. If you get the chance, see 'em live. If you don't, grab "Sitting Around Keeping Score" now.

You can thank me later. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait, April 27, 2004

I received an advance copy of Sitting Around Keeping Score in the summer of 2003, when the album was slated to be released by Arista. After raving to everyone about what a great album it was, I was livid when the record was dropped from the release schedule. Fortunately, it has finally been released, so everyone can hear what a great group this is. I could describe the music (okay: XTC meets Steely Dan meets Todd Rundgren meets...), but better still, check out the samples on the Amazon page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loooong overdue, but what sweet justice for a ROCKIN' band!, April 6, 2004
This review is from: Sitting Around Keeping Score (Audio CD)
Finally I have a real album to replace the frayed demo copy I've kept all of this time! Yahoo!!! Spymob is one of the hardest working, dedicated group of REAL musicians I know of and THEY ROCK!!! I had the opportunity to work with them a few years back and, not only are they solid guys, but I can honestly say they are one of my favorite rock bands. Finally seeing them get their long overdue props and receiving the exposure they should have had NO problem with before (if they see this they'd know what I was talking about!), is such sweet, SWEET justice!!!! Music lovers out there, do yourself a favor: if you aren't sold on how AWESOME these guys are...check them out on tour with N.E.R.D. and The Black Eyed Peas...TRUST ME...you will NOT be disappointed! THEY BLOW YOU AWAY LIVE!!!! I can't wait to see the show at Roseland on tax day with a big group of friends! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - BUY THIS ALBUM & SEE THEM LIVE!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice to hear something a little different., March 5, 2008

Let's face it- rock is pretty stagnant right now. I recently heard Spymob's Walking Under Green Leaves on the Dish Network NuJazz channel and liked the unique sound (which I would definitely not characterize as "NuJazz"). Overall the sound comes across as fresh--so old it's new again. Its an eclectic blend of newer rock with elements ranging from 50s doo-wop to late 70s/early 80s pop rock (e.g., Steely Dan). The vocalist reminds me of Sting during his Police days, and adds interest to the album. The album is upbeat, major in key, and the lyrics whimsical. Overall, the album is enjoyable, and a welcome respite from the mainstream rock that's being produced today.

5.0 out of 5 stars a refreshing new sound, April 6, 2004
This review is from: Sitting Around Keeping Score (Audio CD)
We saw Spymob at the Moore Theatre in Seattle in late March, and they rocked the house both as opening band for NERD and as the instruments behind NERD. Their new album blends clever lyrics and tight playing and is a departure from their earlier albums. Whereas their earlier sound was reminiscent of Steely Dan and King Crimson, their current album has flavors of XTC, but with more of an edge.

5.0 out of 5 stars SPYMOB RULES!, April 6, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Sitting Around Keeping Score (Audio CD)
I love this band. They are the driving force behind NERD, if you didn't know. Yes, that NERD, hip hop/R&B Production team the Neptunes' current side project. Don't believe it's the same band? See them LIVE! When I saw NERD in San Francisco last year, these guys opened the show, killed, and then got back up and backed the headliners for the rest of the night. Unbelievable energy, especially the drummer, Eric, who RAWKS! And he's SOOO cute, too, especially with the new beard! LOL!

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys rock!, April 6, 2004

I have been waiting for a while to see these guys published. I have followed them for years. It is about time the rest of the world hears there music. They remind me of the unique style of Steely Dan, the Vocals of Sting, the drive of Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I love the variety on this CD. Not the same old BS everywhere else repeated so often. This CD is a breath of fresh air.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally... and it's about time too!, April 6, 2004
This review is from: Sitting Around Keeping Score (Audio CD)
It's about time the music industry finally recognized Spymob for the huge talent they are, and the enourmously popular band I am certain they will become! I used to go see these guys perform in Minneapolis all the time a few years ago. I'm lucky enough to own copies of all of the albums they used to sell at their shows. This release is basically a greatest hits from all of the albums that I own. Awesome musicans, incredible song writing, and if you get the chance to see them live you might be able to get Twigg to do some killer backspins! It's already been ba-rought-en!

Congratulations Spymob! I can't wait for your next release!
