I’m a little torn on how to rate this book. Recently I checked out several books on Sitting Bull because we are covering the West, Native Americans, and of course the Battle of Little Bighorn in History. One of the questions asked in my daughter’s work book was: “Was Sitting Bull a good leader? Find out what happened to him in his later life.” Her school text book wasn't the best recourse to answer that question; hence the transferring of several books from our public library. So far we have read only a few of what we transferred and while this one answers her homework question well, it gave contradictory information about Sitting Bull’s youth and the Battle of Little Bighorn. This drives me a touch crazy and I end up doing further research till I compare what information is written the most often. Then I can only assume that is more likely the correct information BUT I know it’s not necessarily true. I’m sure documentation at this time in History was less than detailed and many stories about Sitting Bull were probably made a bit taller with time too. So other than the confusion this was a really well written and informative book about Sitting Bull for elementary age students.
