A great look at Sioux life, January 8, 2010
This review is from: The Sitting Bull You Never Knew (Paperback)
I found this an excellent source for learning about Sioux life and what happened to the native Americans. It's definitely rated at the correct grade level. It did a fairly adequate job of seeing things from both sides... both the native American and the white-man but has more of a native slant. That's ok, though. Children need to see works like this and not just think of native Americans as what they might see in movies or on television. This would be a good biographical source to add to a school's reading program. We learn a lot about different people in our past from many different cultures, but we spend virtually no time on focusing on any native American individuals.
I like Collier's approach to his writing and wish he had more biographies for this age level.
