From the Publisher

It is 1972. In the exciting and fast paced novel, Six to Five Against, the setting is Downey and the surrounding Southern California area. Jimmy O’Brien, novice criminal lawyer, is handed the case of a lifetime. Senator Welch’s attractive assistant is murdered and the police have arrested her gardener. With the help of Sol Silverman, veteran investigator, O’Brien succeeds in his mission and in the process takes down an evil criminal organization. The case takes O’Brien from the track at Del Mar, to the farm town of Manhattan Kansas, the neon strip of Las Vegas, and to the glitz of a Beverly Hills fund raiser. Along the way he accepts favors from a judge, is threatened by a garbage mogul, and learns Sol’s secret method of handicapping the ponies. The cast includes a beautiful DA, an irrepressible secretary, and, of course, a totally wicked villain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great New Mystery Series, November 10, 2004
This review is from: Six to Five Against (Paperback)
Does the world need another mystery novelist? Absolutely! If his name is Jeff Sherratt. Six to Five Against is the first of a thrilling new series starring Jimmy O'Brien, ex-cop turned fledgling criminal defense lawyer. The book is a fun read, fast and exciting and thoroughly enjoyable. Five stars and a pat on the back. Keep them coming Jeff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Allways Hungary for this type of book!!!, December 1, 2004
By
This review is from: Six to Five Against (Paperback)
Love to stumble across this book that starts out good from the first sentence. Reminds me of some of my favorite writers from Damon Runyon to the James Cain to the guy that wrote the Maltese Falcon.....There just isn't enough of this clever street crime writing and all the good material seems like it was over by the 50s.....Anyway this writer places his story in the 70s and picks all these God forsaken towns that I've heard of but never go to. The characters all seem like people I've have seen from a distance but never got to know.....Anyway if all books were this good I'd be a much more avid reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read!, November 23, 2004
This review is from: Six to Five Against (Paperback)
As a long-time mystery reader, I'm always on the look out for promising newcomers to the genre. Jeff Sherratt is definitely an author to keep an eye on. This novel has it all -- a twisty fast-moving plot, interesting, off-beat characters, and a great feel for the grittier side of the Southern California scene. I couldn't put it down!
