5.0 out of 5 stars Great New Mystery Series
Does the world need another mystery novelist? Absolutely! If his name is Jeff Sherratt. Six to Five Against is the first of a thrilling new series starring Jimmy O'Brien, ex-cop turned fledgling criminal defense lawyer. The book is a fun read, fast and exciting and thoroughly enjoyable. Five stars and a pat on the back. Keep them coming Jeff.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Experience
Reading this book was like being led through a theme park for adults with all the rides and attractions you'd expect to find in a gritty film noir play land. The writer paints vivid images, truly placing me in 1970's LA. A few of his descriptions rivaled Steinbeck and his capable use of "film noir speak" is to be envied. Believable characters, especially O'Brien, the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Allways Hungary for this type of book!!!, December 1, 2004

Love to stumble across this book that starts out good from the first sentence. Reminds me of some of my favorite writers from Damon Runyon to the James Cain to the guy that wrote the Maltese Falcon.....There just isn't enough of this clever street crime writing and all the good material seems like it was over by the 50s.....Anyway this writer places his story in the 70s and picks all these God forsaken towns that I've heard of but never go to. The characters all seem like people I've have seen from a distance but never got to know.....Anyway if all books were this good I'd be a much more avid reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read!, November 23, 2004
This review is from: Six to Five Against (Paperback)
As a long-time mystery reader, I'm always on the look out for promising newcomers to the genre. Jeff Sherratt is definitely an author to keep an eye on. This novel has it all -- a twisty fast-moving plot, interesting, off-beat characters, and a great feel for the grittier side of the Southern California scene. I couldn't put it down!

Believable characters, especially O'Brien, the lead. He has a unique voice with which I could identify. Quite suspenseful at times.

I really enjoyed this book. Classic funny mystery in the Robert Parker, Carl Hiassen mode. Great characters, page turning plot. Highly recommended.

In this novel, Jimmy O'Brien's conscience forces him to champion the cause of an uneducated gardener accused of murder. Rita, his paralegal will have you laughing, and O'Brien's need to survive a pilotless plane will have you at the edge of your seat.

"Six To Five...Against" is fast paced story, an enjoyable read. I recommend it to all readers who love mystery.
