Book Description

December 30, 2003 0385510861 978-0385510868
“The business environment is so uncertain that no can afford to miss a step. Some forces are out of out control–recessions, cutbacks, layoffs. But being the best we can be at our job is not. We have total control over that.”
--From the Introduction of The Six Fundamentals of Success

Everyone has his or her own style at work. But if you look at the people who are successful, you’ll see similarities. They always do the most important things first--they know how to prioritize. They can sum up how their company stands out from the pack in only a few minutes. They work with a sense of urgency, every day. These are the kinds of qualities and habits that never go out of style. Moreover, they are crucial to any successful career and life. By pursuing them regularly, you and your company are more likely to get ahead.

In The Six Fundamentals of Success, CEO and business consultant Stuart Levine spells out exactly how to practice the constants of business success--whether it’s satisfying customers, developing strong relationships, or communicating clearly--through six fundamental principles, gained from decades of experience working with top executives. But it’s the way Levine zeroes in on these fundamentals--add value, communicate well, deliver results, act with integrity, invest in relationships, and gain perspective--and brings them to life through dozens of pithy, to-the-point rules that makes the book so practical and useful. With no-nonsense lessons like “Face time counts,” “Do breakfast,” and “Share the good news--and the bad,” Levine offers concrete examples of how to behave, respond, and motivate others.

Aimed at business people and entrepreneurs at all levels, whether they work in companies large or small, The Six Fundamentals of Success provides the smart, action-oriented guidance people need in today’s challenging climate.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Simple-But-Powerful Playbook for Success, January 4, 2009
By
I lOVED this book. It is a super-quick read that is full of insights on how to succeed in business and in life. The insights are simple. Yes. But that is what makes the book so powerful. It teaches us - and, in many cases, reminds us - that success is not hard to achieve. You just have to focus on the right things and implement them in the right way.

Don't be deterred by some feedback that says this is just "common sense stuff." Maybe it is. But we are all well-served by being reminded of some of the fundamentals from time to time.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of best books I've ever read, June 5, 2005
By
This review is from: The Six Fundamentals of Success: The Rules for Getting It Right for Yourself and Your Organization (Hardcover)
At the risk of sounding like I'm gushing, this is honestly one of the top 3 books I've ever read. My husband's boss recommended it to all of his managers. He had it laying on the counter for weeks unread, so I read it. I was so engrossed, I finished in one night and took away MULTIPLE tips that are both applicable in the business world AND your personal life. I bought my husband a replacement copy so my highlighting wouldn't annoy him and encouraged him to read right away. Although he's not a big book fan, he too took many tips away from the book.

It was just short of life-changing for me. There are actually more than 6 tips too -- there are sub-tips for each of the fundamentals which I found more helpful than the primary 6. On the personal side, it helped me cope through the death of my grandmother and get ready for my wedding. On the business side, it reinforced some principles I had which MY managers questioned, and gave me the courage to leave my job and apply those principles as well as new ones in a new job which I am much more happy with.

I agree with one of the other reviewers that you should replay/pull this book out again after reading to refresh on ideas, especially in new situations. If you don't get anything out of this book, I'd like to meet you as you must be quite a sage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Success Has Begun, January 7, 2004

John J Leahy (Long Island, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Six Fundamentals of Success: The Rules for Getting It Right for Yourself and Your Organization (Hardcover)
At my 1st staff meeting of 2004 on January 5th, I provided my "Greater New York" team a copy of "The Six Fundamentals of Success". I took them thru the book focusing on those things I thought would get everyone on the same page and insure they work as a team to meet our aggressive goal to grow our business 25% in 2004.

With only 2-hour meetings on January 5th, 6th and 7th and repeated references to the book, I have seen an incredible change in how the team is working together and is truly energized. With the book as a foundation, the team now believes we can make our budget for the year.

I would encourage every business manager to read the book, share it with your staff and then just coach and facilitate their success!

A great way to begin the year -- a must read!!
