If you liked Gerard Reve's A Prison Song in Prose, then you might like these short stories.  Admittedly, Reve's is the far greater work, but these were written in a similar vein.   -  The Author

Not intended for young readers, some of these stories contain graphic violence, strong language, homosexual themes, sexual situations, and possible triggering material if you're a trauma survivor. Reader discretion is advised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just plain weird. (I love it.), June 17, 2011

This is a book about human evil, which is well-written and has an experienced author's appreciation for pacing, diction, and drawing the reader in. Unfortunately, unlike most books, this one draws you in and proceeds to beat the crap out of you. This is a book which is extremely hard to get through, not because it isn't well-written, but precisely because it IS well-written. Sending you through the ringer is exactly what the author intends to do, and it shows.

Reading this book is like playing chicken on the highway. It eventually becomes a game of "How long can I keep my eyes open?" Because the writing is skilled, you never feel like you're wasting your time, which leaves you with what is more-or-less a perfectly free choice... To endure, or walk away. And it doesn't really matter which one you do.

This is one heckuva strange and unique book. It's like a bioluminescent mushroom growing in a field of daisies. Check it out, but it's certainly not light reading. It perfectly succeeds at what it intends to do, however, and deserves five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark is the word for it - prepare to be challenged, May 29, 2011

I've concluded that the most disturbing aspect of all of ederyn's short stories is that they are believably real. This account of what two or three human beings said or did really could have happened. The underlying linking concept throughout these stories is of the depravity that human beings are consciously able to perpetrate on others with malice aforethought. However these stories are no simple litany of graphic gore, they are skillfully constructed to misdirect the reader so that the denouement comes as a punch in the guts. Yet there is surprising nobility of sentiment here as well. Some of these stories are both horrifying and life affirming - not an easy thing to pull off. These stories are emotionally complex and I haven't really read anything to which I could compare them. The only comparison I can think of for effect is the movie "In the realm of the senses"In The Realm Of The Senses: The Criterion Collection [Blu-ray]. At some point you will think ederyn's stories are too much, at what point that occurs depends on you. Not for the faint-hearted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as advertised., May 21, 2011
This review is from: Six Minutes (Kindle Edition)
The author mentioned right at the get go that "the most frightening animal in the universe is man", and with the context inside this book, it was no lie. First, let me say that this is not my usual area of interest, however I received this book knowing full well that it was labeled as 'Dark Fiction', and so this review stems from this knowledge.

5 stories told, all filled with their own unique twists that can either leave you mad, happy (if you're a bit disturbed) or in my case, wanting to see a bit more after various endings. If anything, that was my only 'complaint' with this book, I wanted to know more about the stories! The way it was all written, easily suggested that the author could have added more content, however they all delivered their 'lessons' at the end of each well written short story.

Heck, I expanded my German vocabulary simply by reading this (A few stories contains it, but Google translate helped me out with those). And for the price, It's definitely worth it considering it leaves you with a new outlook on 'horror'.

A bit of a warning... "Not intended for young readers" - - - - -"Reader discretion is advised". (The 5th story had me blushing a bit...) Keep this in mind, and you will enjoy the work written. Would I recommend this to anyone that enjoys dark and edgy fiction? Yes I would.
