Book Description

January 2003
Unless Philip, Lord Pemberton, could arrange a six-month marriage he would lose his inheritance. But how could he find a respectable young lady to go along with such a scheme? Coincidentally, Madeline Delaware was desperate to escape from her dissolute uncle, so what better solution could there be? But the sixth-month marriage turned out to be far from the peaceful interlude that she had envisaged. Who was the beautiful Miss Letitia Bligh, and was she really as well disposed towards Madeline as she seemed? What lay behind the mysterious break-in at Philip's London home? Why was his coach attacked as he and Madeline travelled to his Yorkshire estate? And why, when the marriage was simply a convenient arrangement, did Madeline find it so difficult to think of its end?

5.0 out of 5 stars a fast paced regency, November 24, 2003
This review is from: The Six-Month Marriage (Hardcover)
If you love regency novels with lots of action and fiesty characters then you will love this book.

After witnessing what love and marriage did to her parents, Madeline Delware is determined that she will not have the same fate and so escapes from her cruel uncle's intention to marry her off. However she runs headlong into Lord Philip Pemberton and finds herself agreeing to join him in a six-month marriage of convenience.

The thing that really lifts this regency from what might have been a familiar plot is the backdrop of espionage and adventure Amanda Grange has created, which helps the book move along at a cracking pace. Added to this is lots of wonderful dailogue, historical detail and subtle humour making it all together a wonderful read.

4.0 out of 5 stars heartwarming tale about the healing power of love, June 23, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Six-Month Marriage (Hardcover)
Madeline has been badly wounded by her upbringing and finds it impossible to trust men. Running away from her uncle, who plans to practically sell her to pay off his debts, she bumps into Philip, the Earl of Pemberton. He's in need of a wife and as he's going to Yorkshire to live on his estate it gives Madeline the perfect escape from her uncle. The marriage is only for six months so that he can claim his inheritance - not a new ploy in a Regency romance, but one which works well here - and over the six months Madeline has a chance to come to know and trust him. A real feel good book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Touching Regency Story, May 21, 2011
Madeline Delaware,21, is being imprisioned by her guardian. She escapes one evening when her guardian tries to force her into accepting an arrangement with a unwanted gentleman in order to pay off his debts. She runs into Philip, Lord Pemberton, 34, who has his own reasons for wanting a six-month marriage. She soons accepts his offer of marriage just she can get away from her cruel uncle/guardian.

Characters are well developed, you can see why Miss Delaware mistrusts men after witnessing her parents marriage and living with her guardian.

There are a few accidents and spy activity that adds interest to the book.
Well written, clean romance.

I'm glad I found this author and plan to read more of her books! 4 1/2 STARS!
