A multi-facetted introduction to German New Music,
By A Customer
This review is from: Six Take: New Music for Piano (Audio CD)
Covering the works of composers that span a century, Six Take offers a wide array of styles and colors and really takes off with Steinbach's own work "Slapstick Variations" for two pianos, which shows both the artists virtuosity, but also his humor in reflecting classical music from Bach to the charm of silent movies. Including works of young composers such as Thomas, Chr. Wagner and Oliver Troetschel gives the listener good insight into the diversity of today's piano lieterature in Germany. And Medek and Schwaen round off the program. Understandable so many of these pieces are dedicated to the pianist.
