Book Description

Pinnacle Westerns May 5, 2009
"Six Ways To Sunday - And Seven Days to Die": Cotton Pickens' parents had a cussed sense of humour, but there's nothing funny about the way the man can draw a gun. Now he's in the middle of a mining camp district slowly being crushed under the iron fist of another misnamed, hard headed fellow, Carter Scruples. With Cotton facing off against Scruples, a beautiful young woman caught in-between, and a band of outlaws living high and mighty in a dry-docked Pullman Palace Car, the town of Swamp Creek is surely going to get blown sky high. And when time comes to put the pieces back together again - Cotton will do his picking one bullet at a time...

1.0 out of 5 stars Possibly a W W Johnstone plot, but not his writing, August 8, 2009
By
This review is from: Six Ways From Sunday (Pinnacle Westerns) (Mass Market Paperback)
Now that W W Johnstone has passed on, his nephew, J A Johnstone is writing, supposedly, off his uncle's plot outlines. The only difference is, W W Johnstone was a good writer and I enjoyed his books. J A Johnstone is a lousy writer and he should take his uncles name off the books he writes. You expect William Johnstone and you don't get anything even close. For those people that like this book, okay, you like J A Johnstone, but the book cover says William W. and that is not who wrote this book. Fans of the older Johnstone probably will not like this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars "delightful", May 11, 2009
By
This review is from: Six Ways From Sunday (Pinnacle Westerns) (Mass Market Paperback)
I purchased this book for my 82 year old father. He enjoys westerns, but because he has read so many, it is sometimes difficult for me to find ones for him that he truly enjoys. He described this book to me as "absolutely delightful" and one that I "definitely need to read" for myself.

Johnstone's character, Cotton Pickens, is engaging. He's a bit slow in the head but fast with a gun, and has a comic streak too. He manages to outwit and outshoot all sorts of calculating claim jumpers in a frontier mining camp. Westerns don't get any better than this.
