4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
I picked this book up at my local library and decided to give it a try. I ended up enjoying it a lot, but, of course, it wasn't perfect, but it did meet my exceptions. I have always enjoyed Eve Bunting's books, but I say that this is my favorite Eve Bunting book I've read. I only rated it four stars instead of five stars, because, even though I liked it, it wasn't...

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring
I did not like this book because it was boring and it had no point to it.(at least not to me) The book deals with a girl who comes head to head with her fear and is also worried about how her friends will react when they find out.

Meet Janey Winston, a sixth grader at Fred Barrington Elementary School. She, her best friend Claudia Fairfield, as well as Janey's secret crush, Blake Conway, are all R.A.B.B.I.T.S. (Read A Book; Bring It To School.) Claudia and Janey have just heard great news, too, for all the Rabbits - there's going to be a big sleepover party in the cafeteria!

Claudia's so excited; she's got a new pair a pair of pajames, and they're going to be carpooling with Blake, Janey's crush, Malcolm Price, Claudia's crush, as well as the weird new girl - Rosie Green. But Janey's worried - she has a secret no one can know - she's afraid of the dark - because of an old babysitter. Will Janey have to miss the sleepover of the century?

4.0 out of 5 stars Learning to face your fears..., December 17, 2006
This review is from: Sixth-grade Sleepover (Paperback)
Twelve-year-old Janey Winston has a huge secret...she's afraid of the dark. Thanks to a horrifying childhood experience, Janey has slept with a nightlight throughout her life and has no plans to do without one anytime soon.

Then Janey and her best friend Claudia find out their school's reading club, of which they are both members, is planning a co-ed sleepover in the school cafeteria. The two girls are thrilled, especially since they know that Blake and Malcolm, the two boys they secretly have crushes on, will also be attending.

But Janey also knows that after the fun is over, everyone will settle down for the night...in the dark. She desperately wants to be with her friends, but she also knows she isn't going to get rid of a lifelong fear within a matter of weeks.

Janey is so embarassed about having a "babyish" problem that she doesn't want anyone to know. But, as Janey learns, sometimes you have to trust others and let them help you in order to conquer your fears...

4.0 out of 5 stars fun!, May 3, 2000
This review is from: Sixth-grade Sleepover (Paperback)
Being an eduational assistant, I read several books out of our library. I fumbled around until I found this book. I like to reflect back to a more innocent time for children, and this fit in magically! I couldn't put it down. I loved the passion the kids have for reading in the book. Plus, it's always fun to see problems solved!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!!!, May 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Sixth-grade Sleepover (Paperback)
Being a P.E. teacher, I find that many students leave their belongings in the gym, especially if their class is the last class of the day. One day, I found this book, picked it up and started reading it. Needless to say, I finished it and returned it the next day. It was one of the best books that I could have ever read. It not only showed how much fun reading is, but it also dealt with issues adults deal with on a daily basis. I really loved the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, July 1, 2005
A Kid's Review
this book is about two young girls who are envited to a sleep over with their reading group-"the rabbits". they both want to go (especially since the girls crushes will be there!) but one of them has a secret problem. with the help of an unlikely friend and a great teacher, the girls get to go to the sleep over and have an exciting night thats full of suspence and fun.

i would recemend it to any young girl from ages 9 to 13. i got it from my grandmother and have already read it twice and really enjoyed it both times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great BOok!!, January 9, 2005
This review is from: Sixth-grade Sleepover (Hardcover)
I am 22 years of age but I remember reading this book in the sixth grade. I fell in love with it and thought the whole idea of kids actually reading and enjoying reading was fantastic. Too bad kids today do not have the same passion. It isn't sappy or superficial, but is a real depiction of what it feels like at that age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read book, December 13, 1999

This great book is about a girl that has a fear of darkness. She really wants to go to the sleepover, but because of her fear, she's worried. I felt the book did have some things in common with some of the sixth graders. I recommend you read this book because it made me feel how others and my self feel about our fears or things we can't do.
