Biography

The Ventures recorded their greatest hit before they even had a record deal. "Walk Don't Run" was recorded in 1959 but no record company would sign them so, in the end, they started up Horizon Records and produced it themselves. It wasn't until it gained airplay as a radio news signature tune that it finally made its way to No.2 on the US Billboard charts.

This review is from: Sixties Guitar Party (Audio CD)
Surf guitar nuts beware! This is the Ventures at the peak of their inspired Muzak phase, hammering our guitar driven versions of your favorite sixties rock favorites. I love it - most of the tracks pre-date the more heavily orchestrated, organ drenched sound the group began to display around the time of the Ventures Tenth Anniversary Album, and with literally dozens of late sixties albums to choose from, every one of the eighteen tracks should be instantly recognizable to even the most casual fan of the classic rock tunes of this era. A refreshing take on a great group of songs by one of the most underrated bands of the sixties.
