Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Victoria Murphy is the Daily Mirror's Royal Reporter. She reported extensively on the Wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton and continues to travel the world writing about the Royal Family. She is the author of Sixty Glorious Years, a book celebrating the life and reign on Queen Elizabeth II.

More About the Author

Victoria Murphy, a native of San Diego, California, is an accomplished photographer with 30 years of professional experience. She has worked commercially in the development process, custom portraits, real-estate/construction documentation, and as a private event photographer. In addition, she has spent a lifetime enhancing her portfolio of artistic photography.

"Ireland: Then and Now" is Victoria's first book. It was designed to reflect the changes that a century and more has brought to the towns and places of Ireland.

People are always fascinated with change. Many will disagree as to the benefit or loss because of that change. The crowded villages that were once so quiet and peaceful, the bustling cities that are now prosperous but were once dilapidated, and the ruins that have been carefully preserved; all are seen in this book.

This is a very fine collection of photos of Queen Elizabeth and the Royal family spanning 1926 to the present. Most of these photos I had not seen before. Photos are clear, interesting and accurately captioned. The book is primarily a photo album without a lot of text, but it succeeds well as a pictorial archive of the Queen's reign. Yes, many photos are black and white--- but most were taken in the time when black and white photos were what we had. The book is heavy and the paper stock is good quality. It is bound well, not cheaply. The appearance of the book is lovely, I plan to purchase copies as gifts. I have many books of the British Royals and this is now one of my favorites.

I purchased this book due to the fact that it was produced with content from The archives of The Daily Mirror one of the major news print media publishers in the UK. I was thinking that it would indeed become a collectors item for the Diamond Jubilee. "NOT"!!! The photographs are mainly black and white, the quality of the print is poor, and the assortment of photographs lack variety of events, and subject matter. In other words many pictures we have already been seen before! Take it from this official Anglophile. Don't waste your money! Looks like a rush job created to cash in on Diamond Jubilee Fever.

It's a lovely book, with many pictures I had not seen before, which means that there are many pictures that you probably won't have seen either. This book traces QEII's glorious reign from the very beginning when she found out in Kenya that she was the Queen of England to the 60th celebration. It also delves briefly into the time when she was Princess Elizabeth. All the photos are crisp and clear (where the original was crisp and clear) and the text is very clear and well printed. The text assumes some knowledge of the Queen's career and does not talk down to the reader. I recommend this book if you are an Anglophile looking to increase your Queenly library!
