Book Description

April 27, 1999
Here is the first new book of poems in more than a decade from the author so well known for her thought-provoking science fiction novels. It is also the most autobiographical of Ursula K. Le Guin's five poetry collections, taking its inspiration from the wisdom and perspective that a woman attains in her sixties. Here she is at turns wry, playful, and sharply critical, with finely observed details of her day-to-day life and moving philosophical reflections on growing older.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

-A veritable collage of verse, capturing short literary snapshots of real and imagined people, places, animals, and events by a renowned science-fiction author. Writing with passion, wit, and vision, Le Guin gives readers sharp, vivid imagery stimulating all the senses. This well-written collection can be enjoyed by young adults needing a poem or three, or devoured whole by avid poetry lovers. A great choice for all libraries wanting superior poetry or those with a strong Le Guin readership.

This review is from: Sixty Odd (Paperback)
Gorgeous, spare, searing poems of memory, loss, and perfect moments. You might have to be in your sixties to really appreciate these poems, but they spoke to me(in my sixties) deeply.
