4.0 out of 5 stars Sixty Seconds by Maxwell Bodenheim, November 3, 2000

This review is from: Sixty Seconds (Hardcover)
Sixty Seconds is a poetical depiction of the contemporary can of worms {ie the States in the 1920's}.His work often unconventional for the sake of earnest cticisim of the hypocracy of his time, Bodenheim none the less sheds positive light into human nature and ofcoarse its sexual prerogatives as Bodenheim could only do. It is sad and dark in its honesty of contemporary society though it is encouraging in its view of humans willingness for simple love and sexual drives. The prejudices and racial madness is seen as uncoth workings of men with little minds and little poetry. Indeed poetry as Bodenheim states in a short prose prelude the only thing that gives us meaning to the intirems of night and day or death and life. I was also pleasantly suprised by his insights into philosophical concepts seeming to proceed those of Albert Einsteins theory of realitivity. This is, I have little doubt, the wonderfull and witty mind of a largely misunderstood author. Lastly, Bodenheim is an unpopular writer and this book is no exception to this. Not only is it difficult to obtain copies of his work now as is frustrating for me, but it is difficult to find the same honesty and unpretensious poetical style in todays authors. What wonderfull book, what a wonderfull mind. I raise a toast to the late, late Maxwell Bodenheim.
