A classic, no doubt about it.,

When Skaboom first hit the racks back in 1987 it was greedily snatched up by the handful of ska followers desperate for some new band that would carry the torch previously lit by the Two-Tone scene in the UK and Fishbone and the Untouchables on the West Coast. We weren't disappointed. The album features the high energy writing and singing of band founder Rob 'Bucket' Hingley, well supported by the Unity Two, who's physical stage antics unfortunately could not be captured on the album. The songs feature guitar and keyboard driven skank accompanied by a delightfully raw horn section. Each track paints an atmospheric picture of life in mid-eighties NYC, hanging out in the East Village shootin' pool with the sharks at Blanche's and playing gigs at CBGBs with other upstart ska bands like the Boilers and Urban Blight. The re-release of Skaboom on Moon Records is especially sweet since they throw in the classic 4 song Recriminations EP that was produced by Joe Jackson. That demo remains fresh, mod and innovative to this day and will set you back $75 if you find it in vinyl. Good liner notes, too. This one's a landmark, folks.

...from the toasters really. They were an amazing band. This record and they're 2nd blow the doors off anything they put out afterword. These are the days with the Unity 2 in the band. Sean and Lionel brought it all togehter. They were the lynch pin to the whole operation. Rob "Bucket" hingly is a great song writer and guitar player but it was the 2 that brought it all together. I only wish I could have seen them together. All other toasters records are pretty lack luster. There are a few good songs but no where near the hit after hit on those first two. Get Skaboom! and Thrill Me Up" and know that it was good then and one day someone will come to make it good again in the future.
