Wife and I were out shopping for a watch for her one day when she coaxed me into looking at the men's watches, even though I told her I had decided there weren't any men's watches out there in the world that appealed to me, having seen my fill of big "boat anchor" watches and many others that were just plain boring. Then lo and behold, my eyes were drawn to this Skagen. At last, I had found a sleek watch with classic styling that didn't cost a fortune, and that you don't see everywhere! I was excited. And you know what? After three years, I still love it! It still looks great (it shrugs off hard knocks very well), keeps fantastic time, and draws the occasional compliment to boot! I couldn't have asked for more from a watch.

Great design..but quality is terrible,

First thing you'll notice about this watch is its incredible weight. It's super light compared to those big clunky stainless steel watches. I had this watch for over 5 years, and I got scratches on the crystal from normal use. So don't expect this thing to be completely scratch resistant.
Well the low ratings has to due with the poor service and build quality. The "chrome indicators" that mark the hours actually came loose inside my watch. I sent it to Skagen under their lifetime warranty to repair it. Guess what, it happed THREE times already...same exact problem. I've spent over 30$ just shipping the watch back and forth. Again, I really like the watch, but the problems with things falling out, and poor repair service, I can only rate this watch a 3 star.

Best watch in the world!,

I love this watch. I got it in July and man it is awesome! It's so light that you wouldn't believe you're wearing it. I worked at Starbucks for 6 months and banged it around and no scrathes at all on the hard mineral crystal. It's not scratch resistent, but i've never gotten any nicks at all.
People from various age groups (teenager, mom, yuppies) have asked about the watch because it's a subtle classy elegant watch. This would make a great present for that special someone or for yourself. If you want to adjust the chain, go to a local watch shop. It should take less than 5 minutes and cost about $6. Don't do it at a major brand name store. They charge $15 and you may have to wait. By the way, the numbers and dials do glow in the dark. Crazy!

I've owned this watch for about two months now, and have very few complaints.
Contrary to the information in some of the other reviews that caused me some concern before my purchase, I've actually dinged the crystal a couple of times without any evidence of damage whatsoever. I've knocked the face of the watch on pieces of glass (reaching out the window of my car), a table, and a desk, and you can't tell there was any trauma to the watch. It's a great watch that goes with a wide variety of wardrobe pieces, from suits to casual. And importantly, in two months it has been accurate to within a minute. The minor complaints? The font of the date is a little hard to read, the dark face can make it difficult to read the time in low light, and the knob to adjust the date and time is hard to pull out while wearing it.

I usually took off my watch during sleep. No longer, I wear it almost 24 hours a day because I barely feel its existence. My father did not like wearing any watch for whatever reason, but he likes this watch. I gave mine to him and immediately bought another one. I also like its unassuming yet elegant look. This is the watch I like best among all those I ever owned.

I got my watch a couple days ago. I really like it - very light and very stylish.
HOW TO ADJUST BAND - as some others have said, this is very difficult. You can do it yourself though. You'll see some of the bands have little arrows on them. These are the ones you can remove. Do NOT pull on the outside portion of the link - it does not slide out. You need to place a small pointed object (like an awl) into the hole next to the arrow and use it to push out on the inside piece. This is a U-shaped piece. You can slide it out a few millimeters, then carefully grab it with a small pair of pliers and pull it out the rest of the way. (once its out a little ways, you can slip the awl back into the slot and use that to pull it out the rest of the way... I found that easier) Once you get two (or more) of them apart, you can remove the other link parts and put it back together. NOTE: This is a bit tricky and you have to be careful not to scratch anything. If you aren't comfortable with it, I'd take it to a jeweler. On the up side - if you need to remove a link, just try it on that one link. If it gets scratched, you are removing it anyway!

A beautifull watch but not for everyone...,
By Skagen was one of the first brands to go titanium in both the watch and bands and more and more companies are switching. Titanium is lighter and stronger than regular steel and once you go Titanium, you won't go back. This watch has a small face so its perfect for people with average to small wrist sizes. Some of these watches have faces that are so big its like wearing a tea saucer on your wrist and it's an eysore. This watch is a revelation to smaller wrists everywhere. Also the band on this watch does not grab your wrist hair (VERY IMPORTANT!). One disadvantage of this watch is the lack of features. Its got the date and thats about it. Also the ticking from the watch is loud enought that you sometimes notice it if the watch is within about 2 feet of your ears and the room is silent. I wouldn't normally go to bed with this watch or store it nearby while sleeping. Bottom Line: A classy and durable dress watch appropriate for any non athletic situation. I highly recommend it and well worth the money.

5, now 10 years and still ticking,
This review is from: Skagen Men's 105LTX Titanium Grey Dial Watch (Watch)
This is a nice slim stylish watch that is relatively rugged and durrable. I am hard on watches, the metal disolving away after a year of being exposed to sweat on Sieko to Timex brands. After 5 years there is no sign of such wear on this titanium watch. I've replaced two batteries and one band so far. Mine is quiet. The date number is way too small for me to see even with reading glasses, not a problem for me, however.Update: now more than 10 years old and working well. One set of batteries, the replacement band has held up.

Broken after 1-Year Warranty Period: You get what you pay for.,

This review is from: Skagen Men's 105LTX Titanium Grey Dial Watch (Watch)
While I like the lightness of this watch (I hate wearing watches because most of them feel heavy on my wrists, and this is one of the few watches (other than my Swatch Skin watch-- a plastic watch, essentially) that I actually wear frequently. All the other reviews I agree with in this regard.
However, the quality I found is "You get what you pay for." After about 1 year, which incidentally is the Warranty Period, the watch started falling apart. First, the little tab on the clasp broke off. Then, one of the dial markers (the 7-o'clock marker) popped out and was floating around banging around inside the watch face. Then lastly, the watch keeps dying on me. I changed the battery with new fresh batteries 3 times already, and it dies on me all the time. I take off my watch at night, wake up the next day before going to work, and see that the watch stopped around 2am the night before. I have to adjust the time, then go to work. Then, sometime during the day it'll stop. I look at my watch and I think it's 3:15pm-- what a long work day... And realize it's actually 7pm!! Even a $10 children's watch keeps better time than this... Seeing how the warranty is up, there is nothing I can do about it. So I'm actually shopping for the exact same watch and came to Amazon. This is a good price, I paid $100+tax at my local Nordstrom. But I am asking myself, buy another $100 watch (or $70 at Amazon) that will last 1 year, or spend some good money $500+ for a watch that might last me at least 5 years?? Hmmm... Titanium watch selections are limited, though. Especially in the style I want-- traditional, no chrono, clean face with a traditional clasp style. Like this 105LTX watch. But higher quality... I am still shopping around, but I think I'm not going to buy this again.

I received this watch as a gift a number of years ago and still love it. I don't have any issues with the ticking noise or the clasp as other reviewers have mentioned. My version of the watch has two distinct hour-marker bars at 12 and single bars at all other hours. I like this design better than the current "double" marker at each hour.
I've replaced the battery two or three times (can't remember exactly) and the face has one tiny scratch in it that isn't normally visible and doesn't bother me. Its been a workhorse and I will buy again when the time comes. I've even come close to purchasing a spare in case this model is discontinued. |
