music that doesn't fit easily into a genre, October 15, 2007
If you're looking for something to sing or dance to, no, this is not for you. This is a side project from members of Zoviet-France. This review, on discogs, speaks about this music quite well and may offer a more informed counterbalance to the previous review:
"I would say that *Zoviet-France* do not create music - they create imaginary soundtracks to the movies that could've looked like something that we often see in dreams. Critics are trying to find terms for this genre - some are calling it dark ambient, some are calling it "isolationism", but in essence none of these terms will help us to define what it is really Zoviet-France are creating.
According to some sources, their work usually consists of months of improvisation and painstaking editing work. Results are hard describe with ordinary terms. Its meditative and hypnotizing, but at the same time it have nothing to do with new age. Its agressive (at least in the early phase), but it have nothing to do with power electronics or harsh noise. Its influential, but at the same time few heard about it outside of avant-garde/experimental circles.
So what is it, really ? A giant sound puzzle ? Hypnotizing sound walls ? *Zoviet-France* music might be all of it, but it doesn't fit into existing genres and musical schemes."
Very well put, I think. It sounds like nothing else. And in today's market, that's saying a lot. If you're intelligent and open-minded, this is something worth listening to.

WTF?, November 14, 2005
OK, this has to be one of the worst, most boring and stupid cds the world has ever produced. I love music in general, all kinds, but this is just not music at all. Listening to the sounds of the sea or even the city at night is more fulfilling then this dribble. Essentially this is a cd of noise, hardly varying from a low white noise sound of "whish" with occasional beeping. I was listening to this in my car and I swear I was ready to start ramming people off the road. This is the kind of music that can drive you insane, and not in a good way. The last track is like 23 minutes long and after about 3 minutes I just couldn't take it anymore and had to put in a real CD. Let me mention that I can listen to what people may consider noise without any problem. For example all kinds of Black, Death and Industrial metal. Those bands have an interesting thing in common, they play MUSIC!!!! Don't buy this CD unless you have the money to burn and want to hear something that could potentially land you in a mental institution. Believe me, here is how you could simulate the experience of listening to this cd:
A.) Give an infant a keyboard and record the result.
B.) Leave a microphone on in your house while you are not there and record the result.
Now, to achieve the full impact of this recording, add in silence every minute or so, lasting for about 10 seconds. There you go, you just made a CD. Try selling it on Amazon, somebody is bound to buy it.
