5.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining
Dave Attell is very new to me, but after hearing his album "Sk*nks for the Memories...," I think he's a hilarious comedian who's not afraid to take his comedy to the limit. Chances are that you won't be believing some of the things that you hear. As I always love to experiment with new comedy albums, I am glad that this was one that I gave a chance. It was time not...

2.0 out of 5 stars Meh
I'm a big fan of comics like Patton Oswalt, Mitch Hedberg, and Jim Gaffigan, and I've watched and enjoyed Insomniac, so I decided to get this CD. Unfortunately, it just doesn't measure up. There are a few funny bits but overall, the bits on the album rely too much on over-the-top shock value. Vulgar jokes don't bother me; I even enjoy them as long as they're...

It was time not wasted, I assure you.

He talks about it all on this album; drinking, drugs, women, fireworks, traveling... and a whole bunch of other stuff that I can't even begin to describe (just check out the track listing and look at the names). And he does a great job. He has a look and feel of his own, which enables him to stand out from others. He can even have a bitter and cold tone at times, which makes it all the funnier. (I kind of see a Bill Hicks influence in him, without the political material).

My favorite bits are "drinking tips," "travel," "flying," "smoking," "bus station," "fun happens late" "religion," and of course, "find that smell." The whole album is entertaining and doesn't miss a beat for a second.

Be warned, this guy's not for everyone. Some may find his material offensive and so on. (Again, look at the track listing). If you don't like comedians who swear and use very adult oriented material, then I suggest you steer clear from the album. If you love all that stuff (like me) then check it out!!

All in all, Dave Attell is a very funny comedian who knows his stuff. I'll have to check out his show "Insomniac" now, as I am curious to see it after hearing the album. "Sk*nks for the Memories..." is an outrageously hilarious album that will entertain just about any fan of stand-up comedy. I'm very happy with the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Few Comedy Albums Worth Buying, September 7, 2004

I own thousands of CDs but only a handful of comedy ones. I find most comedy albums are either not very funny or just funny enough for me to listen to them about two or three times before getting bored. Dave Attell's album, on the other hand, is entirely different. I've listened to this non stop since I bought a year ago. I gave a copy of it to my brother recently and he, too, hasn't stopped listening to it. The album is just flat-out funny; what's more, Attell has the amazing ability to disarm audiences. He does a lot of "gay" jokes here, but, just as you, the listener, are starting to think, "what's up with all the gay stuff?" he exclaims, "Was that homophobic? ... I hear that a lot: 'Dave, you probably secretly ARE gay.' I say, 'Listen, voice in my head, I'm not.'" Sharp, hilarious guy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funniest comedy CD this year!, February 11, 2003

I've been a fan of Dave for a few years now. His original stand-up comedy show on Comedy Central was great. Now after the success of Insomniac, we are treated to a gem of a concert. Dave holds nothing back when it comes to sex, drinking, drugs, and of course the infamous Find the Smell. His delivery and rapid fire execution ranks him as one of the best stand-up comedians today. If you've seen Dave before or watched Insomniac then buy this CD, you won't regret it.

Certainly one of the best comedy cd's I've ever had the pleasure of laughing to. And I really like Attell's delivery. He will go from one subject to the other, and you don't notice until you're laughing at the punchline.

Parts are rather inapproprite, vulgar, and overall just 'not right', but definately a must have for any fan of "Insomniac" and stand-up in general.

I wonder where I could acquire a Palm Parrot...

5.0 out of 5 stars BABY SHOES, February 10, 2003
This review is from: Skanks for the Memories (Audio CD)
This is hands down THE FUNNIEST STAND UP CD I have ever had the golden chance to listen to. Dave Attell uses his old stand-up jokes and adds a little more. Some of the jokes are seen on his Comedy Central show "Insomniac With Dave Attell" but on this CD its more RAW and Redd Foxx-ish. I have never laughed so hard at any CD before. This truly is the greatest stand-up CD I've ever heard....

Dave Attell is hilarious! On this CD we get a live performance of Dave doing stand-up comedy in Colorado back in 2003; it's incredible how much material this guy can pack into a show! No topic is off limits as Dave, full of energy, gives his audience some very funny views of life and people without the slightest bit of restraint. True, this CD is not for people who are easily offended by swear words and "adult" jokes; but if you do enjoy this type of humor along with sidesplitting little anecdotes and remarks about life you have to get this album!

Just one look at the track list gives you a good idea of what Dave lampoons and tackles throughout the album: his own appearance and "Drinking tips" are just for starters. There's the hysterical "Fun Happens Late," "Travel" and "Flying." "Tattoos" and "Smoking" are also very good; and listen for Dave to do a great job on other tracks including "Fireworks;" "Gambling;" "Drugs;" "D**k jokes" and "Find the Smell."

Dave Attell fans should get this and anyone who enjoys stand-up comedy without being offended by swearing and "adult" topics will also enjoy this CD. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Funniest Stand-Up CD's, October 24, 2004
This review is from: Skanks for the Memories (Audio CD)
First off, some of the reviewers have said there is "recycled" or "old" material. As a comedian, I know from first-hand experience, that no comedian writes material, discards it, and starts on a whole new act. Comedy is a cumulative effort. You keep adding and building, but you never get rid of key bits. Don't talk about something you know nothing about. Buy this cd, it's hysterical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Listen to the Parrot, June 3, 2003
This review is from: Skanks for the Memories (Audio CD)
Although not on television Dave Attell pulls off some of the hardest laughs on his cd. This cd just puts him atop of the comic ladder where he belongs. Not going from club to club, but rather stand up to your cd player he keeps you laughing one joke after another.

Dave is a master of transistions as well, in the cd he goes from one topic to the next with head turning transistions that leave you laughing and just saying to yourself, "Did he really just say that?!"

This cd is a must buy for any comic fan. The cd and the dvd are musts with this comic, and are to me, must haves. So whether it be your birthday, graduation, or just looking for something new pick this up NOW!
