From School Library Journal
Adult/High School-Following on the success of The Concrete Wave (Warwick, 1999), Brooke traces the history of skateboarding through four decades of legendary riders, from the '60s through the '90s. Each decade is preceded by a short overview of the sport at that time. The remainder of the section concentrates on the skateboarders' backgrounds, successes, and impact on the sport and the industry. Skateboarding enjoyed a resurgence in the '90s with the introduction of the X Games, street skating, and popular video games such as Tony Hawk Pro Skater. The chapters on the '80s and '90s have better photos, capturing riders in midair performing daring, gravity-defying tricks and stunts. All enthusiasts of this sport will find this book interesting and entertaining.
