Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 5-8-- A brief history and introduction to the tricks, language, superstars, competitions, and the importance of safety are presented at an introductory level. Reiser's revision of his 1978 book provides updated information on today's superstars, organizations, and competitions. Black-and-white photographs, some of poor quality, are interspersed throughout the book. There are no pictures of superstars or diagrams of accessories and tricks. Safety as it pertains to the use of equipment, boards, maintenance, and the performance of tricks is the strength of Skateboarding. Children interested in basic information about the sport will find that this book does meet the need. --Janice C. Hayes, Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro

Skateboarding by Howard Reiser

Skateboarding is a good book for anyone who wants to learn about the past of skateboarding. Since this book was written in the 70's, it provides a good look at what skateboarding used to be.
It introduces skateboarding, and tells you how it came to be. It includes finding the right wheel size for your skateboard, and determining what deck is the best size for you. In later chapters, you will learn how to perform cool tricks, the language of skateboarding, learn about different pros, and parks and camps where you can learn to skate.
I really liked this book, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes skateboarding. It really proves that anyone can learn to ride a skateboard.
