Three Reasons You Need Shape Ups: 1. Stronger You 2. Healthier You 3. Easy Exercise Routine Three Reasons You Want Them: 1. In Style 2. Portable Power 3. A Brand You Trust |
The design technology behind Shape Ups changes the way you walk.
As we move through our lives, we typically walk on hard surfaces, which places stress on our knee joints and lower back. People who are required to stand for their jobs feel the impact on their bodies the most, and don’t gain the benefits that come with all that activity.
The goal with Shape Ups was to simulate walking on soft ground. SKECHERS has turned hard surfaces into comfortable ground through revolutionary technology designed into the framework of the shoe. The core of this technology is in the dynamic rolling bottom, the soft foam insert under the heel, and the dual-density midsole. These three elements work together to give you the feeling of walking on sand or luxurious pile carpet--regardless of the actual surface. Walking on softer, uneven surfaces forces you to engage muscles not normally used when walking on hard ground. Not only does this strengthen your muscles, but it also increases blood flow and reduces the impact on your joints and lower back.
Designed to improve your life by changing the way you walk, Shape Ups feature a unique soft kinetic wedge insert and dynamic rolling bottom to simulate walking barefoot on a giving surface that gives such as sand. With the comfort of Shape Ups, you will feel your heel sink to the ground as you step, roll forward as your weight shifts to its center, and push off with your toes. This movement will result in stronger leg, buttock, back and abdominal muscles as you stabilize your steps.

Barefoot walking simulation on soft ground
Get in the Routine
1. Kick Back: Stand upright and place feet parallel and hip distance apart, balance centered. Roll your weight onto the back of the soft foam heel – hold for a count of five and then back to the center. Do not lock knees or tip backward. Stretches calf and hamstrings. Repeat 5 to 10 times.
2. Rock and Roll: Stand upright and place feet parallel and hip distance apart, balance centered. Roll your weight forward so you are balancing on the underside of your toes – hold for a count of two, then slowly rock back to the soft heel – hold for a count of two, and then back to your center of balance. Do not lock knees or tip backward. Stretches calf and hamstrings, warms up Achilles and ankles. Repeat 5 to 10 times.
3. Roll and Rock and Roll: Follow the Rock and Roll stretch, but alternate feet so one is rolling to the toes and one is rocking back. Repeat 5 to 6 times.
4. The Lean: Place your hands on a wall, parallel and slightly above your head. With one leg in front of the other and your arms forward, press with your palms as if you were leaning on the wall. Keep your back leg straight and your front foot on the floor, then bend the front leg and lean forward by moving your hips toward the wall. Hold for a count of five, then repeat on the other side. Stretches calf and Achilles. Repeat 5 to 6 times.

I bought these shoes 1 month ago, I have a bad back and bum knees and a torn ligament in my foot that acts up alot. I have tried expensive orthodics in my gymers and that does not help. I was a little skeptical with the 120.00 price of these shoes- but found them for 100.00 and 10% off at shoe planet and also free s/h and no tax which brought my total to 90.00.Online the shoes look a little funky- sole- but they are extremely cute- I bought the black/ white-they also are the most comfortable shoes I`ve ever owned have gone for many walks with the kids and dogs- infact they make me want to walk even more. You can definately feel the difference when you walk- my calves are sore when I finish - which never happend before, and i do notice more toning occuring. I am a thin person to begin with, but my theighs and calves wouldnt hurt to be more toned rather than the slight jiggle! Absolutely the best shoes ever- you wont be dissatisfied.

I read the reviews on these and decided to try them. Most reviews talked about how comfortble these are just for wearing around. THEY ARE NOT to my feet. They make the bottoms of my feet go to sleep while walking, and are overall painfull to wear, especially at first (and yes they are the right size). Speaking of size, they are true to size as far as I can tell, so that should not be a concern when ordering without being able to try them on.
While many reviewers talked about not knowing if they were toning anything, I am convinced that they do indeed help tone your legs/butt. They also do promote good posture. When I am finished walking in them I notice a greater tightness in my lower regions than if I wear normal shoes. The downfall for me is that they hurt my knees and feet. They do not provide any stability, so if you need that these may be bad for you as well. I feel as though I am slamming my feet down constantly and can't avoid it. I also get a feeling of hyperextention in my knees from they way the shoes make contact with the ground. I do also notice that, physically, I cannot walk very fast in them so my heart rate does not elevate as much as when I can speed walk in my regular shoes. I would recommend alternating shoes. I give them 4 stars because I believe they give a better muscle workout, and hope that others w/o stability issues can benefit from them. I am going to give them a few more miles, but overall I think they are hurting me (orthopedically) more than helping me.

My bf and I first tried this style of shoe at a local KMart. The shoe there was really curved and the sole was so-so. It still for some reason made me curious to try some other brands esp. knowing that usually these shoes sell for a whole more then the $19.99 price tags that were on these. The next day I went to Khols and actauly surprised to see them there. Tried them on and instantly fell in love with them. They still had the rocking motion of coarse but unlike the ones at KMart I did not feel like I was going to fall over. Plus, they were so much more cushiony. I work in a clothing retail store on my feet on a super hard marble floor for 8-10 hours a day so when I get out I need something comfortable. These deffinatly did the trick. I then proceeded to just see what other brands had to offer after trying Avia, 2 other brands I cant remember and even Dr. Scholls, I came right back to these. Now, I cant wait till the Mary Janes actaully come out in stores so I can try those and not kill my feet at work. Over all, there was deff. worth the $80 price differance. None of the other brands even came close.
