worth the money,

I was at the mall the other day and had tried another brand of this type of shoe on. It felt great and I was very interested in them. However they were 290.00 dollars, so I pasted on purchasing them. I then saw the skechers on- line and for only 90.00 dollars it was worth the risk. I have to say I really like them; a lot. Since purchasing them I have lost five pounds, without dieting. I only wear them to work and I am on my feet walking and standing 90% of the time. The difference in my posture is amazing. just in the way I now stand as well as in the way I walk. I was a little sore the first couple of days, mostly in my lower/middle back mussles. This has since gone away. this is a great shoe that forces you to focus on your posture as well as your balance well standing. Love the shoe and a great price. I may even go back and get the more expensive pair just because they seem to be softer when you step and I think they would work the mussle more.

Walking is my primary exercise....about twice a week in the winter and 5-6 times a week when I'm getting ready for a trip. My walks are usually 3-5 miles. Prior to these shoes, I was wearing another brand of "regular" flat walking shoes at roughly the same price. I only wear these shoes when I walk, not to work etc. To date, I've worn Skechers on about 10 walks. I was skeptical of the claim it worked all of the leg and some lower back muscles, but thought the idea of "rolling" forward would help the calf. After my first couple of walks, I noticed my legs got a much better work out than they ever did in flat shoes and my lower back hurt a bit. After the third walk or so, my lower back stopped hurting and my legs still fell pretty tired...so I'd say the shoes help produce a good workout. For me, the shoes are very comfortable. It is like walking in sand and they felt good right away. Things like "balance" etc. never seemed like a problem. One thing I had to "learn" was not coming down so hard on my heel (this meant, for me, taking a natural step and not "trying" to rock into the step.) The reason the shoes get four stars and not five is because the heel is not snug (side to side) and if there is a bit of tilt on the street or path, it seems that my heel slides in the shoe. I believe I read that they don't make the shoes very tight so that you have to use your muscles more... Whether or not that is case, I have noticed that I am even pretty used to a little bit of heel slip at this point. To work different muscles, I use the Skechers on two walks and then my flat walking shoes on one. Works for me. As of now, I would buy another pain of Skechers when this pair wears out.

I got a pair of a different brand very much like the Shape-ups at Christmas. Everyone complimented me on my "neat looking" shoes and I think maybe my DH got a little jealous. Hee hee! But I kept telling him and everyone else, I don't care what they looked like, they were like walking on clouds! I loved my shoes and recommended them to everyone. However, my husband couldn't take me up on my recommendation because the brand I bought only carried women's shoes/sizes. The Skechers so far is the only shoes that carry the men's styles and sizes without breaking the bank. Granted, they are a little pricey, but I think they have been well worth it because my husband is absolutely in love with the pair he just received (he got the white and navy ones). The extra height is an added bonus as well. They make him about 2 inches taller and he's totally digging that. Ha! He will be attending a conference later this month where he has to walk around most of the day, so that will be well worth the price if it can save his feet and back. So far he has no complaints and has walked around quite a lot to get used to them (can you say Sam's Club and Wal-mart browsing!) and says he actually feels invigorated after walking in them and his posture is better!. That is a thumbs-up in my book!

Super comfortable!,
This review is from: Skechers Men's Shape Ups Lace-Up (Apparel)
I wanted to try these to get some more exercise while I walk as I've gotten a bit lazy. The minute I put them on I instantly said to myself WOW these feel like pillows, they are so soft and comfortable. Walking takes just a little to get used to because the back of the shoe is rounded but you quickly adjust to them. You will feel your posture is better and feel less pressure on your back. I suffer from a bad back and I do feel a difference with these. I first thought they were just another gimmick but they do help. The sole is a bit thick but the style of these sneakers help disguise the extra thick sole.
pros: helps posture relieves back pain SUPER comfortable strengthens legs cons: thick sole takes a little to get used to when walking

I'm a Mailman. I walk about 6 miles a day. When I get home at the end of the day, my feet just want to die! Well, not any more! Sketchers Shape-Ups are marketed as leg and butt toning shoes. They do indeed work muscles that I forgot I had, but the most amazing thing is my feet don't hurt anymore. I've tried every kind of insole, arch support, gel, etc., and nothing has ever helped. Until now! THANK YOU SKETCHERS!!!

The Skechers Men's Shape-ups are a must for anyone who has knee, ankle, or lower back problems. One does have to break them in because they do exercise the lower calf muscles, but once they are broken in, they are ready to provide you with hours of comfort: you are going to love 'em. I have to walk the equivalent of many city blocks across the concrete on a major university campus, and stand on concrete floors teaching all day. I have severe knee problems and a congenital ankle problem in both ankles. Few shoes equal the Shape-ups. The are a must purchase. Just wish they came in a few other colors (and don't be fooled, the Shape-up listed as Pebble in color, is actually green. I've never seen green pebbles unless they've become moss covered).

I bought my Skecher Shape Ups in early February of this year. I am a 66 year-old male. I had been walking 3 miles per day, but my knees and hips often hurt during and after my walk. The first time I wore the Shape Ups, my knees and hips did not hurt. It is now early May, and they still don't hurt during or after my walks. I have increased my distance to 4 miles per day, and I have cut 1-2 minutes per mile off my time (15-16 minutes per mile down to 14-15 minutes per mile).
I ride a recumbent bicycle 70 miles per week and had noticed some painful calluses on the bottom of my feet caused by the pedals. Because of the thickness of the Shape Up soles, I no longer have the calluses. In March I bought a second pair so I would have one pair for workouts and a second pair for everyday.

I've had my ShapeUps for just about a month now. At present, I use them exclusively on our treadmill, trying to keep them clean (it's still snowy and muddy here). I have to say, most of the other reviews seem to be correct. The shoe works muscles (calves, hamstrings, lower back)that I'm not used to using when I walk, and it seems to force you to walk more upright, improving your posture. They DO take some getting used to, though. When I first put the shoes on, they felt downright weird, and as folks have said, there is some muscle soreness in the beginning until your body gets used to them. I can't speak to weight loss, at least not yet. I have a wide foot (9 1/2 E), so I was concerned about the fit. I bought a half size larger in regular width as suggested, and they seem to fit well with maybe just a little sliding in the heel but not enough to be an issue. When I change into my well-worn NB's, I feel like I have newspapers tied on my feet.

The shape up work shoes are better for me,

On April 1 of this year I ordered a pair of skechers work Men's Shape Ups from Amazon and the order was filled by ShoeMall. I got those shoes promptly and after wearing them for a day, found relief for hip and knee joint pain that I'd been seeking for over 2 years. These Skecher Work Men's Shape Ups are a godsend.
However, given the relatively smooth sloe (with a surface that in my opinion looks like siped tires) I was concerned about walking with them off road - as in dirt paths with hills. So, after inquiring, I found that the original Skechers Men's Shape Ups had a more aggressive sole - similar to my old hiking boots, but not as pronounced. So, I ordered another pair on April 23 - this time the order was filled by Online Fitness. Those shoes arrived today and the appearance of the sole tread is markedly different than the sole on the work shape ups. I wore these new shoes today and within less than 3 blocks my hip and knee joints were aching terribly. I called Online Fitness only to be told first that the representative hadn't head of the Shape Up Work shoes for men (he later corrected himself after putting me on hold and coming back on line). I told him that with the Skecher Shape Up Work shoes I was able to walk over 3 miles pain free however with the ones I received today with the more aggressive sole that I could barely walk 3 blocks and experienced horrible pain. He suggested I just try to get used to them and told me that once shoes sold by Online Fitness had been worn - even for the 3 blocks, they could not be returned. Well, I'll give his suggestion an honest try, but am pessimistic. However, I am, at this moment, wearing the first pair I bought - the work variety of shape ups - just got back for a 6 block walk and am pain free....So, I'm thinking that in the future I'll deal directly with ShoeMall as I see their website still has the Skechers Shape Up Work shoes available - and I can't seem to find them on Amazon today. Actually, I'd rate the first pair I got (the Skechers Shape Up Work) at 6 out of 5 stars and the Skechers Shape Ups I got today from Online Fitness at a 1 out of 5 - so I averaged those two for my rating of 3 stars..... Happy with ShoeMall, Unhappy with Online Fitness

Shoes are true to size. Very comfy, but do take some time getting used to. Don't plan a long walk in them til you take a few short ones. Also they are a bit heavier than I like, but not too bad. I would recommend them for someone trying to lose weight walking. (I lost 5 pounds since I started walking in these)
