Three Reasons You Need Shape Ups: 1. Stronger You 2. Healthier You 3. Easy Exercise Routine Three Reasons You Want Them: 1. In Style 2. Portable Power 3. A Brand You Trust |
The design technology behind Shape Ups changes the way you walk.
As we move through our lives, we typically walk on hard surfaces, which places stress on our knee joints and lower back. People who are required to stand for their jobs feel the impact on their bodies the most, and don’t gain the benefits that come with all that activity.
The goal with Shape Ups was to simulate walking on soft ground. SKECHERS has turned hard surfaces into comfortable ground through revolutionary technology designed into the framework of the shoe. The core of this technology is in the dynamic rolling bottom, the soft foam insert under the heel, and the dual-density midsole. These three elements work together to give you the feeling of walking on sand or luxurious pile carpet--regardless of the actual surface. Walking on softer, uneven surfaces forces you to engage muscles not normally used when walking on hard ground. Not only does this strengthen your muscles, but it also increases blood flow and reduces the impact on your joints and lower back.
Designed to improve your life by changing the way you walk, Shape Ups feature a unique soft kinetic wedge insert and dynamic rolling bottom to simulate walking barefoot on a giving surface that gives such as sand. With the comfort of Shape Ups, you will feel your heel sink to the ground as you step, roll forward as your weight shifts to its center, and push off with your toes. This movement will result in stronger leg, buttock, back and abdominal muscles as you stabilize your steps.

Barefoot walking simulation on soft ground
Get in the Routine
1. Kick Back: Stand upright and place feet parallel and hip distance apart, balance centered. Roll your weight onto the back of the soft foam heel – hold for a count of five and then back to the center. Do not lock knees or tip backward. Stretches calf and hamstrings. Repeat 5 to 10 times.
2. Rock and Roll: Stand upright and place feet parallel and hip distance apart, balance centered. Roll your weight forward so you are balancing on the underside of your toes – hold for a count of two, then slowly rock back to the soft heel – hold for a count of two, and then back to your center of balance. Do not lock knees or tip backward. Stretches calf and hamstrings, warms up Achilles and ankles. Repeat 5 to 10 times.
3. Roll and Rock and Roll: Follow the Rock and Roll stretch, but alternate feet so one is rolling to the toes and one is rocking back. Repeat 5 to 6 times.
4. The Lean: Place your hands on a wall, parallel and slightly above your head. With one leg in front of the other and your arms forward, press with your palms as if you were leaning on the wall. Keep your back leg straight and your front foot on the floor, then bend the front leg and lean forward by moving your hips toward the wall. Hold for a count of five, then repeat on the other side. Stretches calf and Achilles. Repeat 5 to 6 times.

I was at the mall the other day and had tried another brand of this type of shoe on. It felt great and I was very interested in them. However they were 290.00 dollars, so I pasted on purchasing them. I then saw the skechers on- line and for only 90.00 dollars it was worth the risk. I have to say I really like them; a lot. Since purchasing them I have lost five pounds, without dieting. I only wear them to work and I am on my feet walking and standing 90% of the time. The difference in my posture is amazing. just in the way I now stand as well as in the way I walk. I was a little sore the first couple of days, mostly in my lower/middle back mussles. This has since gone away. this is a great shoe that forces you to focus on your posture as well as your balance well standing. Love the shoe and a great price. I may even go back and get the more expensive pair just because they seem to be softer when you step and I think they would work the mussle more.

Walking is my primary exercise....about twice a week in the winter and 5-6 times a week when I'm getting ready for a trip. My walks are usually 3-5 miles. Prior to these shoes, I was wearing another brand of "regular" flat walking shoes at roughly the same price. I only wear these shoes when I walk, not to work etc. To date, I've worn Skechers on about 10 walks. I was skeptical of the claim it worked all of the leg and some lower back muscles, but thought the idea of "rolling" forward would help the calf. After my first couple of walks, I noticed my legs got a much better work out than they ever did in flat shoes and my lower back hurt a bit. After the third walk or so, my lower back stopped hurting and my legs still fell pretty tired...so I'd say the shoes help produce a good workout. For me, the shoes are very comfortable. It is like walking in sand and they felt good right away. Things like "balance" etc. never seemed like a problem. One thing I had to "learn" was not coming down so hard on my heel (this meant, for me, taking a natural step and not "trying" to rock into the step.) The reason the shoes get four stars and not five is because the heel is not snug (side to side) and if there is a bit of tilt on the street or path, it seems that my heel slides in the shoe. I believe I read that they don't make the shoes very tight so that you have to use your muscles more... Whether or not that is case, I have noticed that I am even pretty used to a little bit of heel slip at this point. To work different muscles, I use the Skechers on two walks and then my flat walking shoes on one. Works for me. As of now, I would buy another pain of Skechers when this pair wears out.

I got a pair of a different brand very much like the Shape-ups at Christmas. Everyone complimented me on my "neat looking" shoes and I think maybe my DH got a little jealous. Hee hee! But I kept telling him and everyone else, I don't care what they looked like, they were like walking on clouds! I loved my shoes and recommended them to everyone. However, my husband couldn't take me up on my recommendation because the brand I bought only carried women's shoes/sizes. The Skechers so far is the only shoes that carry the men's styles and sizes without breaking the bank. Granted, they are a little pricey, but I think they have been well worth it because my husband is absolutely in love with the pair he just received (he got the white and navy ones). The extra height is an added bonus as well. They make him about 2 inches taller and he's totally digging that. Ha! He will be attending a conference later this month where he has to walk around most of the day, so that will be well worth the price if it can save his feet and back. So far he has no complaints and has walked around quite a lot to get used to them (can you say Sam's Club and Wal-mart browsing!) and says he actually feels invigorated after walking in them and his posture is better!. That is a thumbs-up in my book!
