2.0 out of 5 stars Nice try Skechers
If you are someone that can't afford, haven't tried, or don't want to pay the cost of MBT antishoe, then Skechers is your option. I bought Shape Ups at the end of June 2009 for nursing school. I spend most of my days sitting in class and so far just one day of clinicals (7 hours).

I've always loved sketchers, as I got older and needed more from my shoes I started to wear Birkenstocks, Keens, and Brooks for working out. I saw these at the mall and took a pamphlet and look up some info online.

I decided that these are a step towards MBT's without dropping $250, and bought a pair. Most shoes are made so your foot hits the ground flat, in the same way every time; these (MBT's, Shape-Ups, and some others) are made so your foot is supported and protected, but that support is on squishy foam that your foot and leg muscles have to work in mini, multi directions to keep you standing up.

It sounds weird to say it's like walking barefoot on sand, there is nothing else that feels closer. After walking to the video and grocery store, my feet and legs feel like I took a walk on the beach.

I know that every little bit helps and I walk a lot in my neighborhood, so it is a great shoe for me to have.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice try Skechers, September 2, 2009

If you are someone that can't afford, haven't tried, or don't want to pay the cost of MBT antishoe, then Skechers is your option. I bought Shape Ups at the end of June 2009 for nursing school. I spend most of my days sitting in class and so far just one day of clinicals (7 hours).
My Shape Up shoes already have a lot of wear showing in them. The outsoles platforms are not as firm as MBT, the paint around the heel areas already cracked, which makes the shoes look old and very worn when they aren't. This should have been made of white foam, not paint over them.
Also, these are made for short walks like for work. I took them to NYC for 5 days and they were killing my feet.
The workout is not quite as much if you're already in good physical shape. I didn't feel anything on my legs during my NYC walks.
I own a pair of MBTs that lasted over a year and a half before they showed significant wear from working on them at an Animal Hospital. I bought Shape Ups as a nice price alternative to MBT antishoe but I don't think Shape Ups should be priced higher than $70. They just don't measure up. I got what I paid for. If MBT would have had all leather-like white shoe, they would have been my alternative vs Skechers Shape Ups.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love These Shoes, July 27, 2009
I bought these shoes and just love them. I wear them all weekend long running errands and walking my dog in the evenings. Wish Sketchers would make a shoe that looked more professional that could be worn to work each day.

I have osteoarthritis in both knees and I don't feel any pain while wearing these plus they are a great workout for your muscles.

2.0 out of 5 stars Can't compare to MBT, September 2, 2009
These shoes are a nice novelty, but not much more. Although in appearance they look to be quite similar to the high heeled MBT shoe, with a nice curvature, the reality is that when you apply any amount of weight, the heel flattens out quite a bit and you don't end up with the rocking motion that the more stable MBT provides. This isn't to say that the shoes themselves are bad, but you won't be getting much of an extra work out from wearing them. The base is very spongy and makes for an enjoyable walk; I find that it does help with any knee pain and is comfortable. However, I theorize that any properly shock-absorbing gel insert would be as sufficient, unfortunately.

I'm a fan of the Skechers brand, but these just don't provide the simluation of "walking on sand" that they should. You're not going to burn many extra calories (if any) from a shoe that flattens out so much, and so I think the use of "Shape Ups" is a big misnomer. Just try them on in the store in front of a mirror and you'll see what I mean. As for myself, I wore them as soon as I got them, so unfortunately I was not able to return them. I'll be getting another pair of the MBTs still, but now I'm out one hundred dollars for a regular pair of sneakers.

Overall, they make for a nice shoe, but if you want something to amp up whatever your exercise of choice is, spend a little more and get MBT or a more proper equivalent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Size up 1/2 size, September 15, 2009

I normally wear a 6 in women, but I needed a 6.5 in these shoes. The short toe box combined with the rocking motion meant that my toes were constantly rubbing the front of the shoe while walking. I over-pronate (flat feet) and I didn't have any problems with ankle rolling (left-right) or being unstable in general. Be warned that people with smaller feet will roll more (forward and backward) because the thickness of the sole is the same whether you buy a size 6 or a size 10. I would definitely NOT recommend running in these if you have small feet.

I'm kind of agnostic to whether or not they work for cellulite and toning. I work out regularly and wasn't sore at all after wearing these for a full day. I do think that these would be a really great idea after wearing heels, to stretch out your achillies tendon (and prevent planar flasciitis). And I definitely feel that walking is more work when wearing these, probably because I shorten my stride to walk heel-toe and have to take more steps to cover the same distance.

p.s. -- If you can find the navy / white rather than the black / white, get the navy! It looks much better with everything.

5.0 out of 5 stars These Rock!, August 7, 2009

I have had these for about a week now and they ROCK! And they are comfortable. I have severe osteoporosis and have suffered from lower back pain for many years, I bought these to walk the dogs in, and for the first time in many years, my back wasn't in severe pain after a 30-45 minute walk. I can't wait to see if they add more styles.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Comfortable!!!, September 3, 2009
I love the Skechers Shape-Ups so much I just ordered another pair. I am 66 years old and do a lot of walking. These shoes feel so good on my little bony feet. I wear size 8 in Nike & Reebok but ordered size 8.5 in this shoe. Fits perfectly. If you're vacillating and don't know if you want to spend the money on these shoes, just go for it. You won't be sorry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very comfortable, but ran small for me., August 24, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Normally I'm faithfully a size 8.5 or 9 in sneakers, including normal versions of Skechers. I ordered a 9 but I could've and should've exchanged for a 9.5. Regardless of that issue, they're extremely comfortable and I'm hoping they'll give a little.
EDIT added 08/31/09: Another thing that I have noticed with these sneakers is that I don't drag my heels, a bad habit I've always had. I'm already looking into getting another pair so I can "ruin" one pair in the garden, the place I do the most walking around...

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable, good for calves., August 16, 2009

I've had these shoes for a few weeks now, and have worn them most days since I bought them. They have definitely toned my calves quite a bit. I have some physical issues that necessitate shoes with supportive, cushiony soles and inserts, and have found these shoes to be great in that regard, eliminating a significant amount of pain I have felt with other shoes. They took a little bit of getting used to in terms of the curved soles, but not much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy FEET!!!!, August 31, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased these shoes at the suggestion of a friend. I'm 5'9", 175lbs and wear a size 5-1/2 shoe. My feet are ALWAYS angry. I got these just before our annual charity car show, where I work the raffle booth all day on my feet. Usually, I can barely walk by the end of the day. This year, happy feet. They were tired, but didn't hurt so bad I was wondering how I was going to take a shower. LOTS of padding.

It's been too hot here so far to do much walking in them, but when Autumn finally comes, I will be out every day in them. They feel great and you can tell your muscles are really working.

Expensive, but a great investment. Wish I could wear them to work.
