One of the reasons I recommend Peter Lovesey to all my friends is the consistently high standard of his books. Most authors tend to flag after a dozen or so books, but not this one! He writes well, I often, quite uncharacteristically, chuckle aloud while reading and the plots are intriguing without being confusing. I enjoyed this book as much as any - and I have read all the Peter Diamond series. One thing, I would recommend that readers who are new to Peter Lovesey start at the first Diamond mystery and work their way through them, since there are always numerous references to earlier occurances. Whether or not this would leave a new reader wondering if he had missed something, I can't say, since I am aware of the background. I have no hesitation in giving Skeleton Hill five stars.
