Edward Casement calls in at the Falkland Islands in September 1980. Things do not go according to plan, and having lost his crew, he eventually sails on a charter for the governor in the company of a newly arrived English nurse. But who is this Heather Cooper? And what lies behind her interest in Edward himself? In an atmosphere of growing intrigue, not all is as it seems. In the Falklands, Edward, a ladies man, gets in trouble with an official s wife. After Judy is called away and Pablo is deported as a spy, Edward finds himself with no crew, a mast to refit and a reputation as a pariah.
Edward gets into even deeper trouble but avoids deportation by transporting public health nurse Heather Cooper and her Marine escort to outposts to work with the sick. When the Marine develops a bleeding ulcer requiring hospitalization, Edward and Heather, who have built a façade of mutual dislike, must travel alone. . . . The novel becomes a page turner.
