4.0 out of 5 stars Don't take this album too seriously
Don't take this album too seriously. The laughing at the end of "Oops I did it again" should be a clue that Children of Bodom are just having some fun here. Once you have accepted that it's actually a pretty decent collection of covers. Unfortunately it seems many metal fans are completely incapable of laughing at themselves (the dark lord does not approve of giggles?)...

3.0 out of 5 stars Giving Bodom Their Dues...
I'll try and keep this as sweet and short as possible. Bodom have long been known for covering some of their idols tunes and also having a good sense of humor. These tracks are what happens when a group of Finnish guys get together and have too many beers while in the studio. All in all their are a couple tracks that are def worth listening to such as the Slayer classic...

Don't take this album too seriously. The laughing at the end of "Oops I did it again" should be a clue that Children of Bodom are just having some fun here. Once you have accepted that it's actually a pretty decent collection of covers. Unfortunately it seems many metal fans are completely incapable of laughing at themselves (the dark lord does not approve of giggles?) so this album is bound to be slammed on any of the "hardcore" metal sites. Ignore the haters and enjoy the album for what it is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Give 'em a break!, October 5, 2009

Why in hell would anyone think that just because COB releases an album of covers, that they are going to never make a "Serious" album again. Give the guys a break. I actually think it's kind of refreshing to hear something like this. My favorite cut on the disc has to be "Lookin' Out My Back Door"... The banjo blew me away. Would have been nice to maybe have a few more well known songs. I've never been a big King Diamond fan, but I like the way the covers were done. Way to go COB!

5.0 out of 5 stars good album, October 27, 2009

It seems that most people listening to metal are incapable of seeing that metal doesn't always have to be so serious. Good album, although I would just download it instead of buying it, because yes, it is just covers.

5.0 out of 5 stars they stole a page from Six Feet Under, June 4, 2010
This review is from: Skeletons in the Closet (Audio CD)
Children of Bodom, on this release, seems like they stole a page from Six Feet Under. while Six Feet Under, however, covers metal songs, Alexi Laiho & company covers rock, metal, punk, country, and (gulp) pop songs. although I hate Britney Spears, I love the way that her song is covered on here. Alexi somewhat sounds like a Finnish version of Alice Cooper. Imagine Alice Cooper covering "Rebel Yell" by Billy Idol, and you have the picture. they have "Ghost Riders In the Sky" which they covered on the last studio album on here, and they do a Slayer song too. the members of Slayer say they hate death metal, but I wonder what they think of a melodic death metal band such as Children of Bodom covering one of their songs. I like their cover of Rebel Yell by Billy Idol. this album is lacking an Alice Cooper song, but it is cool anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lighten up!, December 10, 2009
This review is from: Skeletons in the Closet (Audio CD)
I'm stunned at some of the reviews by so-called fans of Children of Bodom that are slamming this disc. It seems like they either didn't know this was a covers collection (apparently missing the umpteen press releases from the label and/or not bothering to look at the track listing) or are indignant that a band like COB would dare to cover Poison and Britney Spears.

Frankly, I'm amazed that anyone familiar with this band could be surprised by this album. Children of Bodom has tossed out the odd cover song from the very start of their career. In fact, nearly all of their albums have one (or two). These have ranged from the serious (Slayer, Iron Maiden) to the just plain fun (The Ramones, Andrew W.K.) and I've always enjoyed them. That's why I was excited to get this collection, even though a good chunk of these songs have appeared elsewhere. Look at the selection of artists COB pays tribute to here: from Pat Benatar to Suicidal Tendencies, Anthrax to Billy Idol. The band makes (most) of these songs totally fit their unique black/death metal style. And for what it's worth, the covers of Poison's "Talk Dirty To Me" is just fun, and the Britney Spears cover is completely hysterical. It was done as a joke, and if you look at it that way you may actually crack a smile over it.

I considered giving Skeletons in the Closet a full 5-star rating just to balance out some of the 1-star rants, but I have to take a star off because they (the band, the label, whoever) decided to have different track listings for the US, European and Japanese releases, meaning that even with this album you still won't get all of Children of Bodom's cover songs. Had they made this a complete collection, I would have given it 5-stars, easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calm down, November 9, 2009
This review is from: Skeletons in the Closet (Audio CD)
If you're looking for an album like Hatebreeder or any other of Bodom's works, you're looking in the wrong place. Granted, this is the same band with the same talented members, but clearly these songs are a reflection of guys who are having fun creating light-hearted metal covers of songs not many metal bands would consider covering. Seriously, what are you expecting of a CD with a metal cover of Oops! I Did it Again???
If you like metal, and especially if you like Bodom, I recommend picking this up. Take it for what it is, and you should enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Collection of Covers with a Sense of Humor!, November 7, 2009
A Kid's Review

Stop blasting them. Ive heard most of their albums so you could say I'm a fan, and I'm still a fan after this!
Some songs like Oops.... I Did It Again and Lookin' Out My Backdoor are more comical or funny and songs like "War Inside My Head" and "No Commands" are more serious or less comical covers.
There just messing around. Its still Bodom to me! 5/5 for good fun!

3.0 out of 5 stars Giving Bodom Their Dues..., September 23, 2009
This review is from: Skeletons in the Closet (Audio CD)
I'll try and keep this as sweet and short as possible. Bodom have long been known for covering some of their idols tunes and also having a good sense of humor. These tracks are what happens when a group of Finnish guys get together and have too many beers while in the studio. All in all their are a couple tracks that are def worth listening to such as the Slayer classic 'Silent Scream', or the well executed Alice Cooper cover 'Bed Of Nails' among others.

When it comes down to it yes, most of this material has been available for a while now. Yes, most of the songs really don't showcase Bodom's chaotic guitar style that at least I adore. Yes, the guys did manage to do a cover of Britney Spears.. Yes Spears and Metal is blasphemy, but as I stated before the guys of Bodom have quite the sense of humor.

So as far as my recommendation goes, if you consider your self a die hard Children Of Bodom fan and feel you must own this then I say get it, just don't expect anything groundbreaking. As for the rest of you it's a toss up, if simply an avid Bodom fan don't bother, get one of their actual albums. Fans of Heavy Metal covers, again, it isn't groundbreaking but might be a nice addition to your collection.

To me, this is simply filler til the next album is released. This was most likely an idea the Record Label had to get us fans to shell out some more cash. If you are a long time fan, just consider it water under the bridge until the next psychotic true Bodom album comes out.

3.0 out of 5 stars ..And now for your listening pleasure..., September 22, 2009

All was going well, then came the cover of Oops I did it Again. Upon hearing this, I promptly upchucked into my undershorts. Went into the bathroom, cleaned myself up and tried it again. Same result. Unlistenable. The rest of the CD is kinda interesting, tho. Keep a bucket handy, just in case. Jus sayin.

1.0 out of 5 stars I want my money back!, November 5, 2009
This review is from: Skeletons in the Closet (Audio CD)
I have absolutely nothing positive to say about this album. Covering other people's songs is risky. If you're going to do that, then do it well. These remakes are AWFUL. If nothing else this has taught me that buying CDs in a store is a bad idea. At the very least there should have been a label of some sort letting people know this was a CD of cover songs. Had I bought online I would have read this information, listened to a sample or two, and walked away. But no, I got this at a brick and mortar. Silly me!

As for COB - I'd heard a few of their songs in the past, and I recently had a chance to see COB play live - briefly since the lead singer had broken his arm - and between both experiences I liked what I'd heard. So as I was in a store one day I saw this CD on the new release wall. Having liked the little of COB I'd heard I picked it up, hoping to continue my positive auditory experience. How wrong... how painfully WRONG. Had I known this was a set of cover songs I would have stayed FAR away. If I had known how terribly COB covered these songs I would have stayed even further away.
