Editorial Reviews

The nice thing about being the Advent is that you never have to change. Whether a solo project or a collaboration, whether its 1995 or 2002, all producer Cisco Ferreira has to do is keep making rock-solid techno tracks. Other producers may bother themselves with the lofty ideals of advancing the music and evolving as artists, but most Advent fans would consider any variance of their beloved 909 kick drum a paramount betrayal. The Advent, like a reputable financial institution, will always be there.

That said, Sketches for Life is the Advent again at its finest. Though relatively brief for an album, all eight tracks are pillars of various techno sub-styles. "Hi Jack" is one perfectly executed mechanized beat while "Inn Touch" funks it up a notch, making it the sort of cut DJs like Marco Carola love to drop. Dark electro-tech is well represented by "Keep It Under," and "The Vault" is one more industrial samba in the best tradition of Jeff Mill’s work as The Purposemaker.

Much like the Tresor label, the Advent represents techno, fully and succinctly. But both ought to be careful. Much in the same way Xerox feared losing their trademark because too many people were using the word as a verb, Ferreira could very well end up losing the name Advent to Webster’s Dictionary should he continue to define techno so very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Techno! October 12, 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
The Advent create distinctive, yet true to the calssic "four on the floor" techno style associated with the Tresor label. In fact, it was the inclusion of the Advent on several Tresor compilations that attracted me to their sound. If you enjoy driving, deep dark thumpers, this 2CD offering is more than essential. I've been waiting for this a long time and am happy to say it was worth it!
